EncoreViewer Software

Post by JenniferChinnici » Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:28 am

I am considering buying the EncoreViewer Software & the Encore SmartCard Reader.
I read that I have to use this particular software and this particular reader for it to work ( I have Respironics REMstar Plus, C-Flex).
Is this true? Has anyone had an experience with this software? Do you like it? Beneficial?

If your machine is a Remstar Plus I am sorry to say that the software and reader will do you no good. Plus machines do not record any data besides the numbers of hours that it is turned on. You might put the money you were going to spend on the program and card reader into a fund for a fully data capable machine.

Yeah, I wish I'd known the limitations of the different machines before I bought a copy of EncoreViewer.

WHO is "They"?

The problem isn't with the software and reader......it's the machine's capability.
The software and reader will still read the card, but the only thing it will show is the hours used.

I also think you have the wrong machine and humidifier in your profile (those are "old" machines). Does your machine REALLY look like the one in your profile?

I am re-checking which machine I have & updating profile.

The literature that came with my machine says it is a

Resprironics REMstar Plus C-Flex,
Respironics System One Heated Humidifier

Nope. You've got the right images now. It's the newest generation of Respironics' machines.

Technically, it's the "PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP"

Unfortunately (?), Respironics has re-used the same model names with each generation of machines. On the other hand, the "Plus" model in every generation has only been capable of recording hours used.
Something you said made me curious..... What was your "upgrade" from? (what did you have previously?)
If you want to be able to track your progress, you're going to need the "Pro" model. (and I would strongly encourage to make them "upgrade" you to THAT model)

I dont even remember what the other one was called. It had no technology at all! Just a box blowing air. I get whatever the insurance will allow me to have.

So, it looks like I wont be able to view any data with this machine. So, how is the doctor able to view the data on the SD card? He can see more than just hours used, right? Hours used displays right on my screen, no need to save it to a SD card. Isnt the doc able to see "events
' also. Why else would they make it with a SD slot for saving info and why would I have to give it to the doc?

That machine will only tell, even the doctor, how long and how often you used it. The doctor will not see any events reading the card with the Plus either.

They need to know how long and how often you use it it for indurance purposes. Insurance will not pay if you are not compliant. They don't care if you are having events, just want to know if you are using the machine!

Even if you got Encore Pro2.2, you would need at least a Pro in that machine, to know when and if you are having events and other therapy information.

Your doctor won't be able to see any more information than what YOU can.......only the hours used. Far too many doctors go by the old "How do you feel?" scenario.

The data cards for the Plus machines (whether they be smart cards or the newer SD cards) only store hours used. Like I said, to get more data......with the Encore Pro 2 or a newer version of Encore Viewer (which may or may not be released).......you would need the "Pro" model. Personally, I believe that these companies should not be making machines that are not fully data capable. Without the FULL data, neither the doctors nor the patients know for sure how the therapy is working.
