I have been on CPAP for 5 years at 13 cm. The original study recommended 13 for CPAP or 15 IPAP and 11 EPAP for BIPAP. I had a new sleep study a month ago so that I could get an APAP. The MD reading the study recommended 16 cm and said nothing else about APAP or BiPAP. My PCP ordered an APAP for me, but the DME won't send it without a pressure range setting and my PCP has no idea what to order. Now I have to go see the MD who read the sleep study - no appointment for another month ... what a pain! Any suggestions on what I might suggest to my PCP or how I can help her be comfortable ordering the settings to get this moving?
PS. I do have an option of using my old study to get a BiPAP - it had been approved. Would this make more sense? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

JNP,
I think rule of thumb for APAP is 4, sometimes 5, above and below your titrated pressure. So in this case, you could suggest 12-20 to your doctor. You can always change it yourself once you get the machine (I didn't say that). Some people feel moving up the bottom number closer to their titrated pressure yields better results. But you could use that as a starting point.
