It depends on your situation.

I went for several years after my first sleep study before I went back and was prescribed a BiPAP unit. I went another 10 or 12 years or more before I needed another sleep study.

It's pretty rare to need more than one every five to ten years.

Will you always be on CPAP? Perhaps. It might get better if you loose weight if you are overweight. It might not. If it runs in the family, then probably not.

But is it worse than wearing glasses or using hearing aids or having filling in your teeth. If it helps you sleep better and feel better during the day, then "What they hey!" It's not as bad as many other problems.

I really don't know of anyone that has ever been "cured" of sleep apnea. A few with very mild SA have had surgery and delayed it. There is always hope that there will be some new inovation that might fix SA and make CPAP Machines obsolute but I would not hold my breath until it happens!!!!!

I realized the moment I was told I had OSA, I'd be on this machine the rest of my life, but hey, I can think of worse things to have to deal with than this, so I consider myself a very lucky girl. And glad that I'm "hooked" on this machine, I can't imagine sleeping without it.

My doctor's office told me I should come back in for a follow-up appointment every 1-3 years (not necessarily another sleep study, just a doctor visit). Since I'm tracking my own data and know what it means, I figure I'll only go in if I think there is a change that warrants it.
