Migrating from 1.8 to 2.2 on WinXP

Post by DreamDiver » Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:13 pm

How to migrate from 1.8 to 2.2:

Do NOT uninstall 1.8 yet. You'll need it for the migration to work.
This install setup is based on my experience with a one-patient install of EP1.8, so if you have lots of patients the actual migration could take a very long while.

Double-click and install the Windows Installer 4.5.exe. It's a hotfix to insure compatibility:
Image

Files extract.
Image

The next few images show what you'll see during the Hotfix install.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Once the Hotfix has been installed, Install the EP2setup.exe.
Image

Obvious:
Image

Another install-shield wizard:
Image

Don't worry - you have to reboot to continue.
Image

Of course once you've restarted, it resumes...
Image

Continue installing...
Image

Accept the EULA...
Image

Make sure to click Advanced.
Image

Just allow the default destination folder.
Image

Make sure to check Data Migration.
Image

Allow the default server name.
Image

Forms Authentication is probably the only thing you'll have available, unless you're installing in an office with a domain.
Image

Accept the EULA.
Image

The obvious churning of the setup dialog box... This sits in the background for most of the install.
Image

This little dialong will sit infront of the setup dialog box while it installs the SQL server. It takes a long time so don't get frustrated.
Image

Depending on your firewall settings, you'll need to allow something twice. Hence the two next pictures. You probably should allow these permanently.
Image
Image

More dialogs about extracting the database.
Image
Image

Two more fire wall allowances.
Image
Image

A bunch more dialog boxes telling you what's happening.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Check both checkboxes.
Image

The readme has your first user name and password. Use these to log in.
Image
Image

Once you've logged in, you'll need to immediately change your password. I forgot to make a picture of this, but it should be pretty self-explanatory. You won't be able to do the migration until you've logged in once and changed your password.

From the Start Menu, pull up to Programs --> Respironics --> EncorePro 2 --> Data Migration.
Log in. I forgot a picture for this too, but it should be self explanatory again.

Unless you have an unusual setup, choose express mapping, the default company and the default clinician. Click 'Next'.
Image

Click 'Begin Import'.
Image

This little dialog box comes up. It takes a short while and morphs into the next dialog box below.
Image

This one just sits there when it's done. No real explanation that it's done. No beep. It doesn't even hand off to the originating window. The only way you know it's done is because the window for beginning import will magically say 'Mapping Complete' with 'Finish' as the only option.
Image

The importer status dialog box will remain above the window. Just click 'Finish' anyway.
Image

It won't be immediately apparent, but now you have to close the migration service. Right click it in the systray and pull up to 'Stop Service'. It might give you an alarm about stopping mid migration, but if there are no errors in the importer status, you should be good to go.
Image

You are now ready to exit the migration service. Right click it in the systray and pull up to 'Close Application'.
Image

Er. Um... Yeah. Click 'Yes'.
Image

Go back to your folder with the install files. Double click 'EncoreSmartCardSetup.exe'.
Image

Choose 'Transylvanian'.
Image

It's a pretty short wait through this dialog box.
Image

Install Shield Wizard for the Card Reader. Click 'Next'.
Image

Accept the EULA. Click 'Next'.
Image

Click 'Install'.
Image

Processing...
Image

A similar dialog box may pop up. Click 'Continue Anyway'.
Image

Don't actually attach a device until you're finished with the install. This is just a reminder.
Image

Click 'Finish'.
Image

Now, insert the Mako Infineer USB Smart Card Reader into the USB slot. You'll see the following two notifications in your systray:
Image
Image

Do yourself a favor and reboot. That seems to work best.
Try out your new card reader with the myCPAP.com Card Utility 1.06. It works great as a backup utility.
Image

Here it is completed. Now you know your card reader works.
Image

Here's an image of the login as it looks on your screen. You're going to see those two people for along while. Images of people generally date software pretty quickly. In a few years you'll look at them and say, 'They're so twenty-aughts.' Why couldn't they just have used a pattern or a logo?
Image

Go to the patient tab and select the patient from a list of patients. Sorry - I forgot an image of this. But here's the individual patient page. Pull down from the SD card icon to 'Download from Device'.
Image

Select 'Infineer'. If you're migrating from 1.8, of course you'll be using the Smart Card Reader. Be sure to check 'Card is to be returned to the same patient,' and 'Leave data on card after download', unless you choose otherwise.
Image

You might see something saying: 'This is not the same patient as the one on the card. Import to this patient anyway?' Allow this to happen. It will only happen the first time, because then the card will be assigned to this patient.

An example of the download in progress. Seeing a percentage seems to make it go faster, but it's not really any faster than 1.8.
Image

An example of the download dialog box when complete. This will disappear on its own.
Image

An image of the patient specifics expanded above the patient tabs.
Image

That's all there is for the install. What's interesting with this version is that the main window is now un-resizeable, but the report-preview window is resizeable. There are some weird window implementations - definitely non-standard for windows, mac or linux interfaces.

The software is eye-stabbingly slow when you change to anything longer than a week in the therapy data tab. If it weren't necessary to upgrade to 2.2 in order to view data from System One, it would be a tossup as to whether this software is better than 1.8.

My card got messed up prior to installing 2.2, so a few weeks of data are recently missing. I had to reformat the card. The first time I installed 2.2, I didn't select the migration tools and uninstalled 1.8 first. That was a mistake. Fortunately, I make a backup image of my hard drive in case I needed to start over. I just restored from the image and did it right the second time. It was a lot of pictures. I hope this helps someone.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did you get those screen shots up like that? That was a lot of work on your part to make it a lot easier for other people. Very altruistic.

In windows, press the keys 'Alt' and 'Prt-Sc' together, and it will only take a shot of the window that has focus. I just pasted them as quick as I could into different layers in Fireworks and exported them as gifs. Then I uploaded them to a server, opened a list of them in shell, copied the file list into a text editor and replace every paragraph return "^P" with "[ /img]^P[ img]http: //www.example.com/images/cpap/ep2-upgrade/". Then I browsed through my local image set in 'preview' and wrote notes about the process between each image in the BBCode. It took a while for the stuff to install. This didn't really slow me down that much. Thanks though.

DreamDiver,

Very much appreciated - did an install of ResScan 3.10 2 nights back (very straight forward).

Now ready for upgr from EncorePro 1.8 to 2.2 on WinXP so your very thorough screen grabs
are much appreciated.

Thanks

Ditto! Thank you DreamDiver. That is a HUGE amount of work. But it will help others who need to do the same upgrade as you did. KUDOS!!

I'm just reviewing the steps involved in the install of EP 2.2. I have two questions involving the Mako DT 3500 Smart Card Reader.

I currently have EP 1.8.49 installed and have been downloading my data successfully for three years. The install program for EP 2.2 includes setup for the Smart Card that is to be done as the last step in the install process.

Under the device manager this is what I currently have for drivers for my card.
Driver Provider: Mako
Driver Date: 6/5/2008
Driver Version: 2.0.0.7
My reader is functioning now under EP 1.8.49 and I have no problems with downloading date from my card.

1. Being that I already have a working reader do I need to install the setup file that is included in the EP 2.2 install package?

2. If I do then do I have to remove the card reader from the USB connection on my computer before I install the new Encore Smartcard Setup exe.? The reason I ask this as the instruction that I am reading in the post says "do not install the reader until the exe. program is done". There is not any information as to what to do if you already have the Mako reader installed from a previous version of EP.

I understand that this new EP 2.2 program is required for the new PR System One machines. I don't require the program today as I am currently using the Remstar Auto CPAP with EP 1.8.49 and all works fine. My machine however has 9000 hours on it and I want to purchase a new replacement machine.

However I want to have a working copy of EP 2.2 installed and working on my computer before I even consider the purchase of the new PR System One Auto machine. Being able to download my data is a must for me.

I almost prefer the look and feel of the EP 1.8.49 program to what the 2.2 looks like so far. Is it possible to leave the 1.8 install on the computer after the install of 2.2? I could then continue to download my smart card from the old remstar machine to that and not have to use the new 2.2 program until I actually purchased the new machine.

Once I purchase the new replacement machine I will continue to use my current machine for travel and as a backup. Hence I will need to download data with the old smart card system as well as the new SD card in the new unit. My understanding is that this smart card setup exe. program included in the EP 2.2 install is for the Mako reader only and that the SD card used in the new machine does not require any setup other then to plug it in to any connected standard SD reader to download.

Any help regarding these install issues would be much appreciated.

ranman,
The latest version of the driver that comes with EP2.2 is 2.0.0.9. After installing 2.2, you end up with 1.8 and 2.2 installed and running concurrently, using two separate and distinct servers: ENCOREPRO and ENCREPRO2. My experience has been that I can download data to both 1.8 and 2.2 using the USB Mako Infineer Smart Card Reader and I bought at the same time I bought EP1.8. The additional benefit of driver version 2.0.0.9 is that it also allows you to read SD cards. Downloading from SD is not possible with 1.8, but it is available on through EP2.2 on any machine that has an SD port available. You can see it as drive 'H' in the image below. Your drive letter may vary.
Image

To sum:
1. You don't have to, but you won't be able to read SD cards in 2.2 until you do.
2. During installation, I would unplug the card reader. I suspect there is housekeeping scripting that removes the old drivers. If your reader is already plugged in, Windows may try to find something to fit the profile before the new drivers can be installed by the driver installer. In my estimation, you end up with a messier install that way.

NOTE: Driver 2.0.0.9 is a little wiggier than 2.0.0.7. If you are not in the habit of leaving your reader plugged in, it matters greatly when you unplug it. For instance, I have a laptop, so I only plug it in for about ten minutes every other day. This has been the most successful method for me in plugging and unplugging the reader under EP2.2:
  • plug in reader
    • turn on EP2.2
    • read card and get reports
    • turn off EP2.2
  • unplug card reader
Anything else gives me an error and freezes EP2.2. I'd be curious to hear others' experience.

What about the serial smart card reader? or do I have to spend an outrageous price for a usb card reader?

I don't have the serial port reader. However, I'm guessing it doesn't show up on my machine because I don't have the port on my laptop for it. If driver 2.0.0.7 included it, it's a good bet 2.0.0.9 will have it too.

Hi, I'm following the instructions, even took an empty HDD to freshly install XP SP3.
Installed EncorePro 1.8 , dotnet3.5 with updates, Win Installer 4.5.
Tried to install EncorPro 2.18 but that doesn't show the option Data Migration.
When 2.18 is installed it can't create reports although I can import data from the SD and see the green-usage-bars.
Is this a new feature in 2.2?
Where can I get EncorePro 2.2?
regards, Peter

The instructions you are following are from a post written in 2010. Things change with time.

Software and hardware from the dark ages, what a blast. Nothing like doing it the hard way. Encore Viewer, much easier..... 32 bit. Jim

The point is that I want to import the old database.
Until Early this year I was running EncorePro 1.8 on Win7 x64.
I have the database exported, thats an .html
Sleapyhead can't import this.
EncorePro 2.18 only can import .epx

I save everything as .pdf files, that way they can be used universally, and by using the real Adobe program I can make notes and edit and or print. Jim

After getting my treatment correct, I have found out the data is needed less, the past is the past, the future is what's important, I just monitor it to make sure i'm still on track. Been on track 11 years!
