New to CPAP
New to CPAP
Well back in 1997 i had sleep apnea and was advised to have a UPPP. fast foward to 2009 my sleep apena returned and after sleep studies i was given a remstar plus (model 250p) with c-flex to use with a Flexifit 431 mask. My AHI during the sleep study was 74 and my michine pressure was set to 19. I have only had it for 2 days and have a few questions. So far i have been able to tolarate for about 4- 5 hours each night.
1. Does any one have any conments on this setup?
2. Is this a good machine and masl combo?
3. I here a holwing semi loud noise like whin blowing around inside the mask when i exhale is this normal?
well that it for now i should have more to include as i further my treatment

Re: New to CPAP

Hello & Welcome, squeeze7! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP. Any mask word\ks with any machine, so the mask choice is really a matter of personal preference. Don’t know about that sound you’re hearing, since I’ve not used your mask. Data is a key feature of the better machines—I’m sure some of our wiser old-timers will be able to tell you about the pros/cons of your machine.

Re: New to CPAP
Am I wrong or is that an awfully high setting for a cpap (19). I thought when the pressure gets to a certain point you switch over to the bi-papsqueeze7 wrote:My AHI during the sleep study was 74 and my michine pressure was set to 19.
to make it easier to exhale. Mine is set at 14/10. I would hate to be trying to exhale against a 19 setting.
Re: New to CPAP
You need to spend some time here researching machines. The plus model you got has no useful data. There is no way to tell how you're doing without data. I'd suggest getting in touch with your doctor and asking about a bi-pap machine. Much better for high pressures like yours. Be sure to ask for a data capable machine.
What ever mask works for you is a good mask. Everyone is different and everyone likes different masks.
The noise you hear is normal. It probably isn't the air moving inside the mask as much as the air that gets vented out. Some masks are noisier than others. We all seem to get used to the noise though. It also seems the noise is much louder to us than to anyone else who may be in the room.

Welcome to the Forum. We're so glad that you could join us. I'm certain that there will be some wonderful folks on here pretty soon to answer all of your questions. As far as masks go, it is a personal thing, sometimes you have to try different types before you find one or two that work good for you. Once again Welcome.

Re: New to CPAP
I'm still new as well and just figured how to get some of the data that's being discussed. I can tell that my pressure is running at 8.8 - 9 on a daily and weekly basis. However, how do I know what the set pressure is?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: New to CPAP
There are indeed a lot of people still new to CPAP. Over time, you'll get used to it.
Re: New to CPAP
Hi goinsleepn, to find out what the machine is set to click on the link and go to the S8 section. Follow the instructions. Be sure to not change anything just write down all the settings. You can change things later of need be.
