What pressure pulse means on the wave reports in the encore 2.2 software?

Here is my understanding of it:

When the air flow stops for several seconds, the machine puts out a brief puff of air (pressure pulse) to determine if the airway is open or not. If the machine decides the airway is open, and the apnea lasts ten seconds or more, then it is reported as a Clear Airway Apnea (CA). If the machine determines that the airway is blocked, and the apnea lasts for ten seconds or more, then it is reported as an Obstructive Apnea (OA). I notice that often no apnea at all is reported, when there is a pressure pulse, and I assume that means that it didn't last for ten seconds. For me, the pressure pulses tend to occur while I am awake, just as I am falling asleep, and they seem to wake me up. I wish I could turn off that "feature", frankly. I do notice that the pulses bother me much more with a full face mask than with a nasal mask, though, and recently I have been using the nasal mask, so they haven't been so annoying.
