I've narrowed the field down to the two auto units mentioned above and even though I'm leaning towards the ResMed S8 Autoset Vantage EPR w/humidifier, I would still welcome some final comments before I take the plunge and place the order. The big reason for me leaning towards the ResMed is the size factor (as I do a bit of traveling) and the ability to get daily data readouts from the LCD.
Info as to noise factor, quality of construction, or overall impressions may very well sway me in one direction or another.
If you have experience with the Aura Nasal CPAP Interface used in conjunction with either of the two APAPs, your comments would be greatly appreciated as well.
This represents a good piece of change coming out of pocket so any and all comments are very much welcome. Thanks...
Decision... Remstar Auto C-Flex/ResMed S8 Auto Vantage EPR
Hi,
Although I don't have the S8 Vantage, I do have an S8 Escape + 3i. The machine and h/h work very well. This is the best integrated h/h ResMed have produced - a big improvement over the 2i.
I also have a RemStar AUTO w/CFLEX.
Re EPR, it only operates when in CPAP mode but that is usually when it is needed. I am one who does not proscribe the the notion that EPR is needed in AUTO mode. I just haven't seen a convincing argument that justifies it. The case for it seems tenuous.
The RemStar are the Rolls Royce of xPAPs (IMHO) but ResMed are pretty close. The advantage of the ResMed Vantage is that 1 machine can be used for home & travel. I have to use 2 for that.
I am about to pull my S8 apart to see how it is built. I did this yesterday with the RemStar & posted the pics here. I will do same with it.
The only thing against the RemStar is its size.
Cheers
DSM

Remstar vs. ResMed...
dsm,
Thanks. I've been reaching a similar conclusion but the size factor would not be the deciding factor if there were some real negatives regarding the ResMed... The only comment that I've read that might be considered a negative is that the ResMed humidifier might have a seal on the lid that could possibly lead to future noise problems if the seal fails (apparently there is a good deal of noise if the lid is not securely closed).

ResMed noise question...
Hi again DSM,
The link follows...

It doesn't seem to be a big problem as long as it is only a question of making sure the lid shuts properly or completely.
I'm not getting much feedback regarding either APAP and will do a little bit of digging through past posts. From your post, you seem very happy with both units in question with the feeling that the Remstar auto is the high end unit. I would love to get the Remstar but the size factor is important... Especially in light of tougher weight and volume limits on domestic flights.
Any other thoughts you might have before I make the purchase in the next couple of days would be great.
Thanks again...
