Hi Folks,
Added 40 photos of the disassembled RemStar.

Interestingly for me I now better understand what goes on inside. I had never been able to get my RemStar to write data to the card & the special study I participated in always said that my cards were empty.

I had assumed they went in picture side up because that is the only way the machine accepted them. If I put the data card in white side up the machine always gave a C1 error and hung there flashing until I removed the card.

After opening the unit up I see the white side of the data card goes up but that always fails when I do it - so it seems I bought a problem machine (but seeing as it would cost more than its worth to return it I will just have to live with it as is).

I somehow imaged the blower motor to be much larger.

Did you notice if there is anything in place to keep evaporation from the humidifier from reaching the electronics and blower assembly? Other than the baffle in the humidifier tank?

Was that a used machine, if it was - was there any sign of corrosion anywhere?

I worry about that since I'm one of those that leaves the humidifier in place when I'm not using the machine.

RG, I would love to pull apart one of the blowers but because these are new machines & in use I am not game to take that particular step.

If some has an older xPAP machine that they are willing to provide for a complete dissection please let me know I will pay postage costs as well as cremation costs

I won't pull apart the new S7 I have as I plan to pass it on untouched but I may pull apart the ResMed Spirit I have on its way.

S8 Escape as promised, is next. Polaris in a couple of weeks along with a PB420S.

I also plan to pull apart the ResMed h.h and the PB420 h/h.

Interesting on the blower motor there is two cables with a total of six wires like the other unit you took apart with six wires and one connector. The white connector should be the tach sensors and the red connector is the power since the wires are much thicker. I see three sensor tubes. I heard that the ResMed may use four. In the past some older auto like the AutoSet used to have a flow sensor like a paddle wheel with a hall sensor. Now days Autos uses pressure sensors but you need more than one pressure sensor along the path in order to read small pressure differences to indirectly determine the flow rate. Maybe you can rearrange the the photos starting with the most pieces on top and maybe a shot at a angle so that we can tell where the front or back of machine is. The lighting on the photos are fine. One thing I noticed that the card is the reader did not appear to go all the way in since I do not see the edge of the card touching the little spring rod at the end of the card cage. Did you try maybe to clean the card contacts inside the machine I am sure that you did look into it. Somethimes I wish I do not want to see what my Spirit looks like inside since I like to keep the mystery and awe of the whole CPAP experience.
Years ago I was a electronic, mechanical engineer with a degree at the National technical for the Deaf at Rochester NY. It was a wonderful program with the lastest and newest state of the art equipment for the time.

Thanks! That answered a lot of questions I didn't have the nerve to investigate. That's a very usefull addition to the board. And thank Kate Moss for the use of her modeling hands although I think she needs a shave.

The card reader has always been a problem since I bought the machine. If I put the card in white side up (which it turns out is the correct way) I get a C-1 flashing error & a constant beep. It always did this so I assumed the card had to go in picture side up as it registers the card & I get no error but there was never any data recorded on it. It was only when reviewing the pictures that I saw the card contacts were on the wrong side to make contact but as before, if I put the card in right way up I get a hard error on the unit.

If anyone is getting connections refused when trying to use the initial link, I suspect it may be because of very heavy traffic to the site.

I can't get to it using htmp (web browser) but if I use my ftp software to access the site it works fine, this implies web throttling via normal http access.

It should come right in hours or days

Re those lovely hands - I was once told many many years ago (when comparatively young) that my hands looked like a dead man's hands. That hasn't changed much with time.

I thought the blowers were pretty solid, I had pictured them being smaller, but I don't know why. They are on the heavy side (not light at all).

There doesn't appear to be any other protection to prevent water getting into the blower but I must say I didn't look all the more closely at the air output assembly.

The machine has been in use for 3 months so is very new. No hints of moisture nor corrosion anywhere.

I leave it all week with water in it & only clean out the container each sunday. However this machine is now in semi-reitrement while I try a F&PHC221LE. Next I will be trying either an S8 or a Spirit. It will be some months before I get to make a final choice but at this time I really enjoy the F&P unit as it is so quiet (the noise it makes doesn't vary no matter what I am doing breathing wise. Also the tone is very low. Other units seem to whine & will vary up & down in pitch as my breathing alters)

On mine, I get an error if I put the card in white side up... whereas, putting it in painted side up everything works the way it's supposed to.

Ok, I just reread your post about which side is the 'correct' side of the card, and now I'm really confused... I'm going to go lay down now...
