Dry Eyes and CPAP...interesting articles

Post by KatieW » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:45 pm

I have been experiencing dry eyes lately, and noticed several recent threads on this. I also did a search for 2009 threads, and found lots of helpful info.

One of the most useful articles posted was this one:

Dry Eye Symptoms and CPAP Therapy - An Eye Doctor's Perspective
By Dr. David Kisling

http://ezinearticles.com/?Dry-Eye-Sympt ... id=2020082

Then, in researching treatment, found these 2 articles:

1. Overview of Dry Eye Treatment, published by University of Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary

http://www.agingeye.net/dryeyes/overview.php

2. Artificial Tears, Too Many Choices

http://www.agingeye.net/dryeyes/dryeyes ... atment.php

Hope this is helpful to anyone with these issues.

As someone who's been dealing with diagnosed "keratoconjunctivitis sicca" (the diagnosis for chronic dry eye syndrome) since before my OSA diagnosis, I want to make one point about eye drops. Never, never, ever use the "gets the red out" drops. They contain vasoconstrictors to shrink the blood vessels in the eye and really don't help with the usual dry eye. Also, the next time you see your eye care professional, please mention the problem you're having. You never know if something else (as if any of us need anything else) is going on.

Here's a link to an article in MedlinePlus (a function of the National Library of Medicine) about dry eye syndrome: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency ... 000426.htm. This is about the clinical condition, not just irritated eyes.
