I just fired my DME
........and it feels so good. After 2 years and getting gouged by them with their so called "maintenance fees" for my CPAP unit. I told them they were a big shower of money grabbing, low down, no good f**#ing c**ts and could rot in hell. I have to give back the unit of course - they can shove that up their arse too. Man I feel better now Sorry for the salty language but venting can be therapeutic sometimes.

And so what are you doing for your OSA and CPAP therapy now? Or did you cut your nose off to spite your face? I did that in the late 90's. Felt good at the time to let them know what I thought of them .... but 10 years later I ended up starting on CPAP again and then being switched to a bi-level. I hope you are smarter than I am and get back on CPAP - and make sure it is a fully data capable CPAP this time. Good luck!

Re: I just fired my DME
Appreciate your insight - but honestly the benefit of CPAP was slim to non-existent and more often than not I felt worse. Lately I've practiced better sleep hygiene- and that has made all the difference. So for now I'm ditching the hose, but in the future if I need it again, I'll order online and cut out the middleman.Slinky wrote:And so what are you doing for your OSA and CPAP therapy now? Re: I just fired my DME
I think that they will let you keep the machine for the simple fact that if your insurance was paying it and you were paying a co-pay after 13 months trhe machine is yours. The so called "maintenance fees" is a way for the DME to keep their fingers in your pocket sounds like APRIA RIPOFF to me.wordlife15 wrote:........and it feels so good. Re: I just fired my DME
Yes you would think so. Apria are insisting that the insurance company never purchased it outright - even though as you said I made copays for over a year and they charged me a bunch of other fees after that too. Should I call my insurance to see what exactly is the situation regarding who owns the unit now?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: I just fired my DME
Don't you think that would be the LOGICAL thing to do? That and re-read your contract with Apria (if you ever read it in the first place). You're probably going to find out your insurance provider paid it off long ago. They've been sucking YOUR money out of your insurance provider with zero benefit to you.wordlife15 wrote:Yes you would think so. I would call my insurance company ask what they did. Report Apria Ripoff to them and see what they tell you to do. If you have been paying the DME you got screwed.
When I first got my first machine from Apria Ripoff I had to give them a check for $100. In June 2005, my deductable. Then low and behold they billed me again in January for another deductable for the machine.
when I called BC/BS FEHB they said I had already meet my deductable but I could never get Apria Ripoff to ever refund it. Go figure. Report them to the State Attorney General for Medical Fraud.
If you are on Medicare report them to Medicare for fraud.
Thanks.

Re: I just fired my DME
As Den said check the contract and also check with your insurance and see what was in effect when you got the machine and if there have been changes.
We have seen rare cases where the machine is rented for life and until you check these things out we won't know if yours is also such a case.
Most insurance pay for the machine in a manner of x months but again check with them on what your specific policy is.

Re: I just fired my DME
Well, I was already to do a big cheer, shout out a hooray, light the fireworks and fly the banner of rotten DME's.....these DME's can and often drive us absolutely crazy on our way to an empty bank account!!!! But then I don't get it......and don't want to cheer a decison to stop your treatment because your are fed up and p.o.ed at the DME. Be angry at your DME but be treated. A few years ago I got p.o.ed at a nurse writing how noncompliant I was in my medical record when I briefly had a lapse in "compliance" due to hand surgery and I could not assembly the damn thing!!!!! I had even had a "special outlet" in my new house for the machine's protection...did all the cleaning perfectly...totally COMPLIANT except for the time of my hand surgery!!!!! After reading a second slam in my medical record, I put the damned machine in my closet and quit!!!! I didn't make the best choice for me....a good choice for relieving anger at the moment!!!!! But would not repeat that choice again.......so be POed at the DME, but treat you OSA.wordlife15 wrote:........and it feels so good.
