How Often Should I Download My Smart Card?

Post by Komodo » Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:29 am

Hey guys! I am now officially a full blown "Hose Head". I installed my software and smart card reader yesterday! YEA!!!!!!!!

The first question I have, ( with many more to follow in the months to come )

How often should I download the info from the smart card to my computer?

Some of the older ResMed units only held a few days worth of data. I think the smart card increases the amount. But I would start every few days at the start, to be certain you had the data downloaded and knew what was going on with your therapy. Then as you see things stabilize you will probably wan to move to weekly and/or monthly (depending on the storage of the Smart Card).

Respironics allows months of data on their smart cards ... but I don't know the amount of data that can be stored on the ResMed smart cards.

Congrats! Paying attention to your data can really help!

I download every day, but you should download at least every four to five days because the S8 only stores that much detail data in the internal memory. If you don't do it within that time-frame, it will start to overwrite the detail data. The summary data is stored for as long as a year, but shame on you if you wait that long to download!

John,

The current ResMed machines store summary data for up to a year in its internal memory. Detail data only for four days. Also, on ResMed machines, the SmartCard does not add capacity, it's only used to transfer data from the machine to a computer. All data is stored in internal memory only.

Thanks for that knowledge transfer! It's an odd design. Oh well, not my choice, but it's what we need to live with.

In that case, I would initially download every couple of days at least to be certain you gather the full detailed data. It's amazing what you can SEE if you look at the detailed data.

While we're "transferring"...

The Respironics M-series stores months of compliance data, but only 7 days of detailed data. Thus, to really track changes, you have to dump data at least once a week.

Komodo,
I check my data every day. I will admit though it is mainly because I am still having issues. It is not because I am OCD! I mean just because I can't wait to look at my results every day and see how i did the night before....
Honestly, if I get to a point where i feel great and I stop waking up at night (leaks, etc), I will probably check my data once or twice a week.
Sorry for the ramble. Hope that helps (if you could understand it ).

7 sessions not 7 days

how many days that will be will vary

Link, last week the card only held 6days of details because Mike slept 9+ hrs most of the week. I usually format every SundayAM but last week I lost Saturday's data. Was that why?
