Has Anyone Ever Tried This ?

Post by shippy » Mon Jan 18, 2010 6:14 am

Hi All

Recently I wake up dry mouthed with a bad taste in my mouth sort of like my machine picks up odors or something, I am running the humidifier at a setting of three or four and it has about a 1/2 inch or so of water left in the tank each morning. Though I clean my mask, hose, tank and filters regularly has anybody besides me thought of the gunk collecting inside the machine , like the piping inside or the blower. Are these parts picking up odors, mold or who knows what? Can the machine be taken apart and a thorough cleaning be done with out wrecking the machine?

Unless you run it without filters, there's really no way for "gunk" to collect. The machine is mostly electronics and blower...there's virtually no "piping".

The air travels thru the filter directly into the blower. The output of the blower ports directly to the humidifier (or adapter fitting, if not using blower. 99% of the "piping" is on the top of the humidifier tank, and presumably gets cleaned regularly. That pretty much leaves the blower, which is protected by the filters. The white one is fine enough to catch mold spores (and what dust the gray one doesn't get).

If you are picking up odors, the most likely source is your hose and/or mask.

Unless you know what you're doing, I wouldn't advise taking the unit apart for any reason...

Hey Dale, I think Snoredog use to take his machine apart and DSM too. You may want to search their posts ... as I recall they had good pictures of the inside. May help you decide if you want to open yours up. But to answer you question, I don't think there are many who open to clean other than a couple of RT members on the forum.

I would try to take care closing my mouth before opening my machine. "Dry mouthed" could come from mouth breathing, with the bad taste being a side effect of that.

Thank You Folks and Thanks Dreamstalker for the Welcome Back

Thought about it some more could be the mouth breathing thing, and also both of my Respironics came new without the fine white filter and I never used them before will order some from cpap.com, I also saw on the sister site an online bacteria filter are these any good? sounds like from the product review they plug up with moisture etc.

I used an inline bacteria filter for a very brief time. I felt it reduced the pressure to me and wondered if there was also an impact to the sensitivity meaning if it missed detecting some events.

In any case, I removed the inline filter but won't run my machine w/o both filters in place.
