Hi,
I'm a newbie. I'm a 44 yr old male, AHI 126, O2 saturation low of 85%, prescribed bi-pap setting of 16/12.
It's a long story how I came to where I am now, but to make it short, it includes:
- - - tremendous frustration with my family physician who doesn't seem to want anything to do with helping me (will be changing soon!);
- - - a fairly nice experience with sleep studies, the first night showing severe OSA, the second determining that my OSA was practically alleviated with bi-pap of 16/12;
- - - a practically new Remstar auto given to me by a friend (YAY! Insurance doesn't cover!)
- - - and after 4 nights of use actually beginning to feel rested and more like myself again! (I have been extremely irritable for a long time and suffering bouts of depression);
- - - and like many, needing to find a better fitting mask due to leaks and nose bridge irritation.
So I guess that's my "introduction" to the forum. I've learned a lot here the last few weeks and am so thankful I found it!
Here's my question, which I'm sure is the first of many to come. My doctors report said that I was moved to bi-pap to make me more comfortable. My machine does not have a bi-pap setting. I have been using the machine on auto with a range of 10-16. When I have been able to tolerate the issues with the mask, I have slept great and my wife says I have not been snoring at all. Is there any reason this setting is not basically the same thing as stated in my report?
Thanks a bunch!
David
Need help with machine setting
Re: Need help with machine setting
David,
Go look at your machine. Write down everything you see written on the top near the buttons. Should say something like "Remstar Auto......." and then something else.
Then send me a PM and tell me what that says.
Good luck!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Hello & Welcome, davidwil! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP.
