Headgear straps cause itching?

Post by pitrow » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:27 pm

So recently I've had a new issue. Seems something is irritating my scalp right where the rear strap on my head gear rests. It itches like crazy. At first I thought maybe it was just a reaction to a new shampoo I bought, but I've since changed that and it's still an issue. I also thought maybe it's an allergy to the neoprene head strap, so this week I've been trying to keep the strap up higher so it's on top of my papcap instead of directly against my scalp. Seems to make a slight difference, but not much. It's still pretty itchy. The weird thing is it's only on the back of my scalp, right under the lobe, where the rear strap rests. The rest of my scalp is fine. That's why I'm thinking it has to be something with the straps. Any suggestions?

How often do you wash your straps? And with what?

I had that issue and washed mine in Pur Dish soap (no fragrance or other additives). Rinse thoroughly and let air dry.

I have very sensitive skin and was experiencing irratatiln where the strap crossed the nape of my neck. I also perspire a lot at night, and do the nightly exercise of opening and closing the blankets. Of course I always wash a new product that will touch my skin. But I did sew a cover for my stratp. Yes you can buy covers, but it wasn't hard. I wash the cover with the strap every week or so. Has worked so far!

Hmmm.... maybe I need to give it a good wash with some no additives soap. Last time I washed it (it's been a few weeks now that I think about it) was just with whatever hand soap was in the washroom. I think I'll look into sewing a cover for that strap too... not too much of a seamstress but I can at least sew enough to keep things together.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I had the same problem and solved it with moleskin.

Moleskin can be found in most stores in the foot problem dept.

I cut the moeskin and put it on the back of the straps and problem solved.

I did get a cover, but it made it hard to adjust straps and thw quattro ff mask seems to need to be adjusted each time I wear it.

Hope this is some help.
