CPAP and fluid in ear/ear tube

Post by windbreather » Thu Jan 14, 2010 7:12 pm

I am going to an Ear, Nose and Throat Dr next week because I have fluid in my right ear due to a sinus infection. I will probably have to have a tube placed in the eardrum. The fluid has been in for about 2 months, I have been on prescription antihistamines with no help. My question is, will my CPAP pressure of 14 be too much for the tube? I am hoping the pressure won't dislodge the tube.
Thanks!

simple answer... no... I've got one already, and it hasn't been a problem.

I had the same situation last year, fluid, ear tube, and pressure of 14. NO problem at all!!

I had the same problem in my right ear too. Do you think it has something to do with the CPAP itself?

I would expect that the eardrum tube and CPAP play very well together. Especially for us full-face folks, the pressure differential can't be resolved by swallowing, since there is always a higher-than-atmospheric pressure on the throat-end of the Eustacian tube. With the tube-in-eardrum, the differential is equalized out the other end.

I'm almost jealous, although I fear for my frequency response were I to have an extra mass on my eardrums.
