OT: Be Forewarned - Political topic

Post by Slinky » Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:32 pm

No matter what side of the AISLE you're on, THIS is FUNNY and VERY telling!

Word crafting, Truth telling, and other Politically correct ways of expressing things. It just all depends on how you look at some things...

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Congressman Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory:

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

"Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

Sorry Slinky, that is a hoax that has been applied to several politicians. See http://www.snopes.com/politics/humor/horsethief.asp

But it is hilarious, thanks for posting it.

Though fake, still a funny story.

Snopes is your friend. If you hear a story that sounds too good to be true search for it on Snopes.

Not if it is as funny as this one, I'm not gonna bother w/Snopes. This is obviously humor so who cares? Enjoy. Change the name to "the" politician you most hate.

I read it on the internet.....it must be true.

CHANGE YOUR COURSE!

Dead ahead, through the pitch-black night, the captain sees a light on a collision course with his ship.
He sends a signal: "Change your course ten degrees east."
"Change yours ten degrees west," comes the reply.
The captain responds, "I'm a United States Navy captain! Change your course, sir!"
"I'm a seaman second class," the next message reads. "Change your course, sir."
The captain is furious. "I'm a battleship! I'm not changing course!"
"I'm a lighthouse. It's Your call."
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

I think every creative writing course should have an assignment to spin such a story. Whoever spun that one has quite a talent. Wonder what a cpap themed spin doctored story would look like. But that would be another thread.

That could be applied to most of our policitians. The could remove one of our arms and argue how lucky we are to have the one arm we have left. OH, and they would do the before mentioned with a smile on their face.

As usual.

In one of my writing classes, we had to write an article as if we were a corporate writer for a car company whose cars had a tendency for the hood to fly up when going over bumps. The target audience was consumers. The articles were read aloud -- some were as hilarious as this example.
