Mirage Quattro Question

Post by Susancarol » Mon Jan 11, 2010 3:57 pm

I have been using my C-Pap machine and Mirage Quattro Mask for 3 months now. Recently I have been having problems with it rubbing down from the bridge of my nose. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you adjusted the dial over the bridge of the nose yet to push the top of the mask a little farther outward, relative to the forehead pad?

It was fine for 3 months and only now this is happening? That is surprising. But isn't it time for a new cushion after 3 months? I thought that was the replacement schedule, in which case maybe that would solve your problem.

Well, I actually just got a replacement seal thingy. This might be my problem from what I see in earlier posts. Might just take some breaking in. And, yes I have adjusted the dial to take it further from my face. The only problem there is that I do get leaks when I do this. I think that I will just have to wait until I get the thing adjusted again.

Hi SusanCarol

My understanding is that "3 months" is an insurance/seller thing, not a user thing.

If the old mask works, then there is probably no need to change it.

cheers

My first three months with the Quattro involved a lot of experimentation, including fastening it way too tight until I learned better. After three months the seal seemed misshapen. Now that I have a lighter touch, the replacement seems good as new after three months.

According to my DME the replacement schedule for the Quattro seal is 1/month. They told me that is how often BCBS will pay for it.

BCBS of Illinois will pay for two replacement cushions a month for mine, but that just because my policy allows that doesn't mean others do. Some people burn through the cushions on the quattro's real fast and others have them for a long time. I think part of going through them is from men who have heavy beard growth.
I have one mask at home that I wear two out of three nights and one I wear at work the other one out of three nights. The one at work lasts about as long as the one at home. Now I figure that is because when I go to work I shave about 530 in the morning so I have more beard growth by the time I lay down. When I am at home I don't shave until almost 8 am.

So their are lots of variable that will cause your mask cushion to last longer or wear out faster.

This means that is how often they get to bill you or your insurance company for it. I've been using my Quattro since August and am still on my first seal. I would encourage you to stock up on 2 or 3 backup seals and then stop letting your DME Provider bill you for un-needed parts.

Best wishes,
Tony

Sorry, What I meant was that is how often they will replace them, not how often they do replace them. They don't send me a new one unless I call and ask for it.
