When did Cpap.com start asking for a prescription for a mas

Post by th » Sun Jan 10, 2010 5:14 pm

I tried to order a mask from cpap.com and I saw where they wanted a prescription . I have ordered masks and cpap machines in the past from them. They(cpap.com) do have a prescription for a RemStar auto from me, but it is over 6 years old. I do not have a prescription for a mask from them. I tried to call customer service and they were closed on Sunday. I need this mask sent out tomorrow morning does everyone now require a prescription for cpap mask?

thanks

I have not ordered a mask from them, but I am with you -- I thought I remembered them only requiring a Rx for an actual xPAP "machine." I do not know when that changed, but your Rx from 6 years ago should be good since this is not a time-related illness where your "refills run out" after 12 months or something. I went back after not being there in a while and had forgotten some of my login info and it said I did not have a Rx on file. But when I got my old login info, it recognized the old Rx (maybe the same situation with you -- forgot original login info?) HTH

If you have a CPAP prescription on file with them, it is my understanding that that in itself should be good enough to order masks. (which was discussed in that thread)

My advice would be to call them and get the straight of it.
I'd suggest having spares available so you're not in a dire situation again.

Den good to see you still posting here. You have been around a loooooooong time I will give them a call in the morning. I wanted it shipped on Monday due to ( i guess they still do) cpap.com using UPS. No worry on mask's or parts for me. I may have not posted in a looooooooooong time here but I have plenty ( 17+) of masks and also spare parts
Love the smell of a new mask

take care my friend

I'm a Krazy Glue user, myself. I've never had to use it on my CPAP equipment, but I always have at least a couple of tubes in my office drawer (at home).

Hi Tom.

Good to see you're still "kickin'", too. I think it was after I posted my first response when I noticed your "joined" date and then I remembered you. I was actively reading the forum at that time, but actually didn't "join" until July of '05. Your date joined was right about the time I had my sleep study (within a couple of days).

Take care and please stop in more often.

It's really neat to see these long standing friendships popping up on the board........

Howdy,

We do require prescriptions for CPAP masks. Your machine is likely valid. Please call first thing tomorrow and we'll take a look and get your order in. If the Rx isn't inside our policies, we can request a prescription on your behalf from your doctor.

Sorry for the trouble. Here's why this happened: viewtopic/t47518/Why-CPAPcom-Requires-P ... tions.html

Tom, so good to "see" you here again!

Hope all is going well for you and your wife.

Johnny, if a prescription on file says just "CPAP" (and a pressure) -- but doesn't have the word "mask" on the Rx, does that "CPAP" prescription allow a person to purchase a mask?

What about a humidifier? Does a prescription that says only "CPAP" let a person buy a humidifier?

Prescription, Phrasing Requirements ...

Mask - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html#362
  • Contains one of the following words or phrases "CPAP Mask", "CPAP", "Continuous Positive Airway Pressure", "APAP", "AutoPAP", "AutoSet", "Auto CPAP", "Auto Adjusting CPAP", "Self Adjusting CPAP", "BiPAP", "BiLevel", "VPAP", "BiPAP Auto", "BiPAP ST", "Synchrony ST", "VPAP ST"
  • Contains physician's contact information
  • Contains physician's signature
  • Contains the patient's full name
Humidifiers - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html#363
  • Contains one of the following words or phrases "CPAP Humidifier", "Humidifier", "HH", "CPAP", "Continuous Positive Airway Pressure", "APAP", "AutoPAP", "AutoSet", "Auto CPAP", "Auto Adjusting CPAP", "Self Adjusting CPAP", "BiPAP", "BiLevel", "VPAP", "BiPAP Auto", "BiPAP ST", "Synchrony ST", "VPAP ST"
  • Contains your physician's contact information
  • Contains your physician's signature
  • Contains the patient's full name
So, just the word "CPAP" sounds to be enough.... though I haven't purchased a mask or humidifier since this requirement went into effect. The script I've uploaded doesn't have the word Mask or Humidifier on it, just "CPAP 7.5cm w/Nasal Pillows" so it should be interesting should I decide to buy something. Which could happen now that its finally a new year....though I've been thinking about getting that travel/backup machine.
