Mirage Quattro Mask?

Post by stewzo » Sat Jan 09, 2010 1:09 pm

I just got a new Mirage Quattro full face mask.
Have been using an Ultra Mirage II full face mask for some time.
I've had mixed results. I've always had stuffy nose problems — that's why I prefer to use a full face mask.
But the masks have always been cumbersome & annoying. I get apnea from the mask sometimes because if it moves around on my face
it makes squeeking and fart noises which wake me up. If I'm having a partculalry restless night, every time I shift I become aware of the mask & I awake. I've never used nasal pillows which seem to be the least cumbersome, but the stuffy nose issue might interfere.
This Quattro seems to have a little better fit than the Ultra Mirage II with some additional adjustments.
I will see tonight how it really works when I try it for the first time overnight.

Any thoughts or comments?
Any thoughts about the Qauttro out there?
Any one with similar problems with this treatment feel free to interject

Hi, and welcome to the forum. There have been several recent threads on the Mirage Quattro. Go to the search function at the upper left of the page, and do a search. You'll find lots to read.

The trick to a quattro is proper fit and adjustment. The quattro runs bigger than the UMFF so if you wore a large in the UMFF you will more than likely need a medium in the quattro. As far as adjustment it should have paperwork with the mask to explain adjustment. But put the mask on with the forehead dial out all the way. Snug up the bottom straps but not too tight, actually a little loose, then you want the top straps a little looser than the bottom. Hook your machine up and turn it on. Now the mask cushion should fill up with air and kind of float on your face. If you have too bit of a leak to fill the cushion either slightly tighten the straps but leave the top looser than the bottom or slowly dial the top adjustment dial in. You want the mask tightened with the bottom straps, with the top ones just kind of holding the mask in place.

Any full face mask is going to leak if you turn and put the side of your face into the pillow.

What I found surprising was how loose you need the mask. The trick for me was getting the nose bridge and side to seal properly and keep it still. It is a good mask, in my case I have settled for it after trying other ff and nasal masks.

I cured most leak problems by getting the silicon of the mask and my nose bridge and face perfectly clean and free of oils. The thin silicon cushion seems to gradually slid on any oily skin and then the leaking starts.

Also, lift the bottom strap at the back of your head upwards if you start to get a leak around the mouth it stops the leak. If you nod your head when you have the mask on and the air flowing, you will see what I mean, as your chin drops, the strap gets looser.

I think the chin movement and how it sits when you sleep aspect is a major leak area to look into when fine tuning your mask fit.

Hi,
I found that for me I tend to have the top strap slightly tighter than the bottom one, as the mask feels heavy on my face and will tend to slide down if the upper strap is not tight enough to prevent it from sliding down. I have a small but longish face and require a medium mask to allow enough distance from my forehead to the top of my chin. I agree that is it better to have the bottom strap higher on the neck rather than very low down. That way my neck position doesn't affect the tightness or looseness of the straps when I position my head on my pillow when I lie on my side.

I too have the Quattro, less than a week now. The fist couple of days, I had to do some fine tuning to mine as well. But now it's just right and I've never slept better in my life! I just love this mask. Let us know how things are going once you've made some of the adjustments. Happy Sleeping!

I don't find this to be true in my case and I sleep on my side most of the time. It only happens occasionally and even then if I pull the mask slightly away from my face and put it back, the leak stops.

I'm a tummy and side sleeper, and I've not had any leak problems with mine. In fact, I found that I had more trouble with my nasal mask than with the FF mask.

Pretty much what has been said. The Quattro is my "leak free" mask. You want to look in on Padacheek for the forehead pad...it really makes a difference:

I didn't mean to sound as if it will leak all the time. If the mask leaks all the time, then their is a problem. Also your pillow can make a big difference in your mask leaks. If you are towards the edge of your pillow and it doesn't push your mask, you won't get a leak.
