Hello all, Last night I purposely didnt use my mask because of a sore throat. The night before this the house was colder than normal by about 15 degrees so I used the heated humidifier for the "first time" thinking it would warm me up and put me to sleep nicely. It worked wonders in that there was no stuffyness or dryness so awoke thinking when its cold out maybe hot air was tolerable and works really well.Few hours later got a scratchy throat , not sick but still scratchy 24 hours later. Any possiblity the moisture got me a sore throat with the lower temp in the house, or was it the coldest weather in years that hit my throat like illness is next?I used nasel pillows and except for that one night have used passover humidity always with little water missing from the tank in the morning.Throw out the old distilled water every morning so the tank is put it back in the box clean, and the filter seems clean too.
Has anyone had issues with using a humidifier with heat the first time out?
Thinking the quattro for tonight over the swift lt might be a good medium but do not want a sore throat in the morning , any thoughts?

Sorry, to read you developed a sore throat. Hope you feel better. From my experiences, I never developed a sore throat using cpap, but that's not say others hasn't. You may be developing a cold, due to season changes.
You can try hot water, lemon juice/honey or otc syrup. Alway's relieves a sore throat for me, or you can seek assistance from a doctor.
Also make sure, your keeping equipment clean, filter, hose, etc...... Which can collect pollutants.
Good luck !!

If you used to snore, before XPAP, you may have had a sore throat. Is the sore throat you're experiencing now like that? To answer your question, I have used humidification from the beginning to prevent dry throat and cold air is uncomfortable for me. So, am not familiar with what you're experiencing.
Did you check your data to see if it looked like you're used to seeing or if it showed information that may help you with the sore throat issue?

thanks all, I used passover from the beginning but only the higher setting that one day.The hot air may not have been my usual temperature is what im thinking cause the room was 15 degrees below normal .Thinking too much cold moisture even with the setting higher could have had an effect or just bad luck. The numbers look good just the effect(guessing) on my throat was not.

Are you sure you are not breathing through your mouth at times? Did you have some nasal congestion last night for the first time?

Pretty sure ,had a chin strap tight and woke with the crusty lips pressed together all night feeling.Wife said no snoring but wish she was more observant at mouth breathing and less when it comes to dishes.A little nasel congestion but not enough to stop using the nasel pillows.Used the nasel pillow last night with only passover humidity and had pretty good numbers with a little bit higher leak rate than usual but got a cold .Going to try the quattro instead tonite if I can force my self to not use the nasel pillows.Sore throat still there, most likely just the first time I have had any sickness using cpap is all.rooster wrote:Are you sure you are not breathing through your mouth at times? That makes sense. I know as I'm getting over a cold now, that the airflow when it's cold at first is a little irritating.
