Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Hi
I was wearing an Activa but I have enough rain-out everyday to make break the seal and start leaking pressure. The rain-out is only inside the mask and the short tube not inside the 2m tube which I covered with a special insulated tissue I made.
So I change to Swift LT. I would like to know if somebody have had rain-out with the Swift LT.
I'm curious, why there are some of you who prefer the Opus 360 or the Headsomething (I don't remember the exact name of the mask RestedGal recomended) instead of the Swift LT.
Thanks
Rosacer

I had rainout with the Swift LT for Her until I switched to the PR System One Auto.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Hi Rosacer,
I'm new to cpap and about 45 days into my journey. Wearing the Swift Lt has helped make my treatment successful. I have experienced rain-out with this mask. I solved the rain-out issue by using a hose cover and turned the humidifier down to 1.5. I also wrapped the short tube of the mask with a piece of fabric called Insul-Bright. It's polyester fabric bonded to mylar. My hose cover is fleece fabric lined with the Insul-Bright too. JoAnne Fabrics sells Insul-Bright by the yard.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Moisture would condense in the mask and cause leaks for me as well. I now use the heated SleepZone hose. No more problems regardless of humidity setting.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Thanks Sleeprider for the information.
Thanks Caseyb. I live in Canada, we don't have JoAnn Fabrics here. I went to a fabric's store but they don't know what I'm seeking for. Could you please describe to me the Insul-Bright? I saw something at the store that looks one side white fluffy polyester stuff the other side is bright like aluminum color, this thing is not thick only 3/16 or so. Maybe this is the Insul-Bright material you used.
One night after the Swift LT (humidifier at 2.5): terrible! I woke up 4 times with water inside the mask and with the weird feeling of my chest and forehead trembling and tingling again (it's nor fear don't worry); dizzy, aerophagia again, two hokey sticks marked on the face LOL, and worst still is that my readings went up.
I need to say in general this mask is more confortable to me than the Mirage Activa I was wearing because this one doesn't touches a lot around my nose.
Readings:
This night Last week
AI 0.9 AI 0.2
HI 4.7 HI 2.8
AHI 5.6 AIH 2.9
no leak no leak
This is discouraging because my readings where not bad, I don't understand. My pressure was supposed to be good, the doc have my last report with the old mask not the new one :0(.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Why not try turning the humidifier down to 1, or even off for one night, and see whether you can tolerate the lower humidity?
Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Hi Rosecer,
The Insul-Bright is mylar sandwiched in-between polyester fabric only about 1/4" thick. The fabric is white on one side and you can see the mylar through the polyester on the other side. Its manufactured by the Warm company. Their web site is http://www.warmcompany.com. I called customer service (800-234-9276)and they do sell it in Canada.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Caseyb, thanks a lot to take the time to call the company. And thaks for the info.
Snorkler: I will start decreasing humidity to see until wher can I go with the Swift LT. With the Activa I can't go lower that 3 because the dryness make my nose get congested and I wake up and then I'm not able to fall asleep again :0) I'm too complicated LOL.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Go to a fabric store and buy some microfleece and velcro. I recommend microfleece that is tightly woven and won't come off easily if you pull on the fiber. It shouldn't look like fur, rather more like felt. The velcro shoudl be a single piece that sticks to itself, versus two piece hook and loop style.
This should work well on the Swift LT.
Headgear tube: Cut a piece to size keeping in mind when you wrap a piece around the headgear tube it thickens, so only wrap enough that will ensure your mask stays close enough to your head. Secure the microfleece you've wrapped around the headgear tube with velcro.
Nasal pillow: Now make a little jacket for the nasal pillows. Here is the one I made for my nasal pillows: http://bravoswift2.cpaptalk.com/viewtop ... =1&t=35145
Hose: I use a hose buddy that I hang my hose from to keep it out of my way. This solution works well with that. It increases the weight of the hose so may not work well for you. I velcro my microfleeced hose to the travel buddy and the additional weight of the hose is handled by the travel buddy.
Anyway, if you already use a hose cover, keep it on. Then, lay out a piece of microfleece wide enough to reach from just after the plastic piece that goes into your machine, to about 12 inches from your headgear. (It can't go all the way to the headgear due to the weight which would make the headgear move when the hose moved.) I roll up the hose in the microfleece and secure it with velcro straps.
Now I have only mask condensation from my breathing. My husband agrees it must be from all the hot air LOL

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
I started to use the Swift LT recently. At first I really didn't like it. But I appreciated how small it is, and how little an amount of "intrusion" I felt. I finally came to like it.
But I also was having rainout -- mostly cause the bedroom temp is low in the winter. So after several different trials of various techniques, I finally plopped down my credit card and got the Aussie hose.
End of rainout.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Rainout is worse when you need low pressure.
I love my Headrest (deconstructed) because:
It is very light
Is does not rest on my lips at all, and touches very little of the rest of my face.
I can place a cotton sock (folded twice for thichkness) on my forhead between the mask and my skin, which gives the seal the right angle -- further reducing the facial area touched by silicon.
It vents upwards -- the vented air never touches my arms, pillow or covers.
It's not a quiet mask, and I use a heated hose because it is very very prone to rainout but advantages outweigh the drawbacks by far.
O.

Re: Rain-out on Swift LT ?
Caseyb: I bought some material very likelly the insul-bright, I enveloped the small tube with it and I didn't get a lot of wather last night, it didn't woke me up. Thanks a lot.
Gasp: I like your pillows jacket I will make one for my pillows. I liked too Feeling_Rest's fix for the srops of water on his Swift pillows, I will make one. If I continue like that my Swift will be really water proof, LOL.
Ozij: thanks to describe why do you like the Headrest deconstructed. I was wondering why that mask was so popular even needing to cut it and modify it. I realize my skin around the nostrils doesn't like at all the silicon, my forehead is OK but not the area on top of my lip. I tryid vitamin E creams and lanoline but it doesn't seems to solution 100% the problem; maybe with the time my skin will accept the silicon I have been only 1 month on this.

I'd love to hear how using Feeling_Rest's fix works!rosacer wrote:Caseyb: I bought some material very likelly the insul-bright, I enveloped the small tube with it and I didn't get a lot of wather last night, it didn't woke me up. Thanks a lot.
