Sleeping Less, Feeling More Rested

Post by TXKajun » Wed Jan 06, 2010 3:21 pm

OK, after almost 5 years of being a hosehead on a PB 420E, I kinda figured I had a handle on things. CPAP literally gave me back my life. Pre-CPAP, I was exhausted ALL the time, no matter what. Post-CPAP, I was getting to bed about 8:30 PM, reading till 9, then sleeping till 5AM. I would wake up feeling ok most mornings, but some mornings, I'd feel kinda sluggish. No biggie, a couple of cups of coffee in the morning and a cup about 3 PM and all was ok. If I was late getting to sleep (past 9PM), I would be real sleepy waking up, about 10AM and then again about 3 PM. Again, a cuppa coffee would do the trick.

Flash forward to late last month, my new Sandman Auto arrives and I start using it. I have found out that now I can get to bed at 10-10:30, up at 5 and feel darn good! I'm not sure if it's due to a different response circuit in the new Sandman, an upgraded algorithym or what, but I find I'm getting less sleep and feeling much better with the new machine. My coffee consumption is down by half.

My statistics are about the same as far as pressure and AHI go on both machines.

Dunno what's going on, but I ain't gonna complain!

Howdy neighbor,
Well that's fantastic news you discovered some changes, improving your overall quality of life. I sure wish, I can get to bed at 10pm, that would be a miracle

Good luck !

Thanks for posting that, Kajun. I've been unfaithful to my PB recently, trying out other companies' machines -- but still haven't found one to give me consistently good therapy. Maybe I shoult try out the Sandman.

Are you using the mask calibration (or whatever it's called) circuit?

A different thought: you mentioned your sweetie got her new machine together with yours. Any chances you're sleeping better simply because her sleep is more quiet now?

O.

I vote for sleeping with a less restless spouse is doing it : ) My husband sure sleeps better since I went on XPAP, however he's addicted to ear plugs and can't sleep without them now. I suspect it's to keep the sound of his own snoring at bay : )
