CPAP Machine with 1-night stats?

Post by WannaSleep » Wed Jan 06, 2010 11:38 am

I have been using a Respironics M Series Auto CPAP machine for some time now. I find it annoying that the display shows only a 7 seven night or 30 night average for pressure, AHI, leak, etc. I'd really like to know just how last night went. I know that you can get that from the card, but I don't have access to the software.

Is there a comparable machine that shows statistics on the display for one night without having to read the card? I am open to getting a new machine if that's what it takes.

Thanks.

Why don't you just get the software (and reader)?

If you are able financially, to buy a new machine, then I suggest you buy the software and the card reader for the machine you have instead.

It is available at cpap.com, I think in a bundle of the software and the reader for a pretty good price.

Then you will have it on your computer and can read your smart card and can see daily details and lots of other helpful information.

A DME will probably not sell it to you nor will a sleep doctor in all likelihood. You need to buy it online yourself.

Thanks. I'd prefer to just hit a button on the machine, instead of taking out the card, taking it to where the computer is, inserting the card, loading the software, remembering to put it back in the machine, etc. All I need is the same data it provides in the display now, but not as a 7 or 30 day average...

The instructions at the bottom of this will help you reset the data so you'll be able to see one night's stats at a time.
They've been posted on the forum many, many times.

Thanks. I knew about getting into setup mode to change the settings, but not to reset the data. I'll try that, hopefully it'll do what I need.

Just to state the obvious. If you want a series of one night's data, you have to do the reset every night. Otherwise, the second night will be an average of the two days, third night will be an average of three days, etc.

And to state the "not so obvious", the data on the display is not as accurate reading the card.

ResMed machines that record AHI and leak info show nightly/weekly/monthly data in the display window. And furthermore, they not only show the AHI, but also break it out into separate AI and HI figures. Very informative.

The closest "comparable" machine to yours, WannaSleep, would be the ResMed S8 Autoset II with EPR and "Easybreathe."

It's beyond me why Respironics didn't include "nightly" in the therapy data they show in the little display window. They didn't do it in the M series machines. Then, when they designed the newer PR System One machines, they had another chance to do that right. But they still didn't add "nightly" results to see in the window. They stayed with their (useless to me) weekly/monthly thing. I guess Respironics figured the people they want to keep happy...the brick/mortar DME stores (their REAL customers) aren't the least bit interested in overnight data.

That little rant over... yes, you can reset the Respironics machine's data to zero before each night. It's ridiculous to have to jump through those tedious hoops, but at least it is a way to see just "last night."
