Would someone please characterize the idiots doing this study?

I notice that one of the authors is called "DONG" and another called "WANG" which maybe should be changed to "WANKER".

So, what you're saying is that it isn't a scientifically vaild Wang and Dong study?

Admittedly, I am not speaking from personal experience, but that study seems like comparing apples and oranges. Maybe the details would answer my questions, but I kinda doubt it. Were the men given the Sildenafil (Viagra) diagnosed with OSA also? And 12 weeks - if these were new cpap users, shoot, it can take that long to get the therapy optimized and get used to the equipment and begin sleeping well. That alone would be a deterrant to feeling amorous. And what was this cpap treatment? By a fixed titrated pressure and monitored for effectiveness? By a wide open apap set on 4-20? All on full face masks to eliminate possibility of mouth breathing skewing effectiveness? There are just too many possible variables and too much subjectivity for this "study" to impress me. All with same severity of OSA? Diabetes ruled out in all? Oh, and was this study subsidized by the pharmaceutical company?

Well, I think it should have been a valid study--aside from the questions of machine titration. What criteria did they use? Did they "measure the angle of dangle," or the "increased length of the woody?" Or, did they have the partners describe the qualitative differences in performance in a before and after mode? These are all serious scientific issues.

Maybe the CPAP side of the test would have faired better if they had a switch to reverse the motor. Jim

Well if the purpose is to measure efficacy in treating ED, no surprise Viagra wins over CPAP.
If the study objective was to measure sleep effectiveness, the results may have been reversed.
The novel idea to perhaps combine treatment of apnea with sildenafil to solve both problems is something I could get behind. What a truely bizzare study, and how weird would that be to participate.

Definetly a hard problem to deal with. Maybe Goofproof was right, try the reverse.

Anyone heard or tried this natural product for erectile dysfunction called Virection? I wanna try one of these natural products but how can you decide which one actually works?

The question begs to be asked. Are these doctors suggesting that it would be ok to ignore the possibility of OSA in their patients and give them a bottle of viagra?
Treating the symptom and not the cause makes me believe that their medical degrees would best be printed on toilet paper.

I didn't think the study is silly. Some men have OSA and ED both, and there is reason to believe that the former is a contributing cause of the latter. If I read the synopsis right, what the authors wanted to find out is whether these guys need Viagra, or whether treating their OSA would do just as much to correct their ED as Viagra would. The answer turns out to be no. It's easy to say afterwards that this was predictable, but sometimes results surprise us. I admire people who actually experiment to find answers. After all, Viagra does have side effects, so if it turned out that CPAP was just as effective in treating ED in OSA patients, it would encourage doctors and patients to try CPAP alone first and maybe avoid the need for Viagra. It is no disgrace to get a negative result, and it is important to publish negative results as well as positive results. Well done, Chinese doctors!
