Looking for help with a ComfortGel nasal problems

Post by abev » Tue Jan 05, 2010 11:20 am

I'm about five days into my treatment and every night has brought on a new challange. So far I have fixed my rainout issues and discomfort issues with the mask. My problem now is that my mask whistles through the exhaust port and it is keeping me awake. At first there was a little moisture in the mask and once I would give the port a quick wipe throughout the night it would help but it was still waking me up. I have tried turning down the humidifier, using it as a passive humidifier, and tonight I will try it with no humidifier at all. I do live in Oregon and we are in the middle of our rainy season, so the air is humid anyways.

so.................................Is there an easy fix to the whistle problem? it only happens when there is moisture present, including moisture from normal breathing.............................thanks for all of the help! it is much appreciated!

I have used the comfort gel nasal mask for a couple of years now, and on occasion it would whistle. Yep, moisture does play a role in the whistling. Have you emptied your hose??? Sometimes that will cause extra moisture to get into the mask. Where you fitted properly for your mask??? I know that my first one was fitted by my DME, and the dork gave me one that was much to big for my face {I have a small face}, I ended up contacting CPAP.com, and the wonderful folks there helped me fit myself and lo and behold I got the right mask and no more whistling or rain outs. I don't know if this was of any help to you, maybe some of our more experienced folks here will have some better suggestions or ideas. I hope that you'll get your mask situated and have a more restful sleep. Keep us posted on how things go.

I would suggest you get a different mask rather than discontinuing your humidity. With no humidity at all your inviting different problems such as nasal dryness which can be much worse that a whistleing mask. You might try resmeds ultra mirage II nasal mask...
