Such a close nit group yet world wide

Post by Gerryk » Thu Dec 31, 2009 10:10 pm

Funny I never really thought about this. The people on here are such a close nit group and usually talk to each other like we were next door neighbors, But only a few of us live near someone else from here, the rest of us are spread across the globe.

We are a global family, tribe, collective...oops, oh no, ignore collective that'd start a political rant

I am so glad I found my new family! Cool, that a newbie can post a question and someone somewhere is likely to be online to respond.

Happy New Year family! Got 45 mins to go here in the Eastern Time zone...

Yes, sleep apnea knows no geographical or political boundaries. It is great to be part of such a diverse community!

To my new friends all over the world....Happy New Year!

I haven't met one person in this city with OSA - so there is no one I can call locally. Nice day, Gerryk

From my culture, (originally North-West England) I could easily say -

Hi Gang,

Greetings from Australia.

And the word would have it's original friendly, inclusive, common cause meaning.

eg

A gang is a group of people who, through the organization, formation, and establishment of an assemblage, share a common identity. In current usage it typically denotes a criminal organization or else a criminal affiliation. In early usage, the word gang referred to a group of workmen. In the United Kingdom the word is still often used in this sense, but it later underwent pejoration. The word gang often carries a negative connotation; however, within a gang which defines itself in opposition to mainstream norms, members may adopt the phrase as a statement of identity or defiance. (Wikpedia)

Does it fit? I tend to think so.

Family?, well, not for me, and probably not for many others. Too many negative connotations.

cheers

Mars

I just want to wish everyone a happy new year! I'm very happy that i found this website and I have made some new friends here. I have only been on CPAP for a few weeks now and have noticed results right away. Happy New Year! Too all my new friends!

Well, my hubby's family really doesn't understand my desire to strap on a mask every night. They don't understand how comforting it is just to know that I'm going to breathe all through the night. (Actually, two of them walked out in the middle of sleep studies and probably have apnea.) But in this community, I'm normal. Here, I'm a winner, not an obsessive freak. Ain't it great!

I hope for a happy and healthy year for each of you!

It is great to be on here. Now if we can just get the rest of the world on cpap so we can all get along. Ok we don't really want that, but I think everyone understands what I mean.

Gasp what do you mean you are the one who is normal you want to breath and live, they are the ones who won't accept and would rather die!

Yes, we have a common bond here, of cpap, and people helping people. I am very grateful.

What would we do without the internet?

As long as we don't catch virtual lice from each other...

I agree, Gerry. You're right. We do talk to each other as if we were neighbors, friends, and ...(with the little spats that break out from time to time)... family members "IRL" ("in real life") -- as the internet saying goes.

What's so great is that real help and real support happen here every day/night.

I do wish that this close nit group extended to neighbors or locals, or that there was an equivalent local group...but I'm glad that I found this and other online resources. 'cause I don't think I'd have gotten this without....

Strange that I'm sure I remember that I was alive before there was all this Internet, but I have no clear recollection of how I had lived without it.

The Dreamer.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I'm glad that I found this forum! Because I'm the only one I know that has sleep apnea and wears a CPAP. Now, I don't feel like a freak or out of place.
