Goals: Say it out loud, change your world

Post by carbonman » Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:26 pm

A new year of cycling has been on my mind today.
I heard a bunch of people talking about their new year's resolutions.
One thing that seems to be understood is that they will not be kept.

I have never made new year's resolutions that I can remember.
I have always been a goals kind of guy.
So, I looked them up.

Resolution- the act or process of resolving
re·solve-To make a firm decision about.

goal- The purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective.

For me, it appears that resolutions have a built in "bail out" clause.
It's only an act of resolve....just a firm decision.

The goal is much more concrete. As I dug deeper into the goal I found this:
Goal-setting ideally involves establishing specific, measurable, attainable,
realistic and time-targeted objectives.
...yea, that's me.
I want to know exactly where I need to go.
I will then formulate the plan to get there.
Then implement the plan.
The goal then motivates me toward the end.

My goals for 2010

Ride 5K+ miles
Log at least 220K vertical feet
Log 150 rides

Live the Zen of the Pike-focus, strength, determination
Take a bunch of pics and stop often to smell the roses.

4 Centurys-
Elephant Rock
4th TripleByPass
Copper Triangle?
Enchanted Circle ?
Tour the Valley
Moab

24 half centurys
Ride Lookout Mt. once a month
Mt. Evans-at least once
Ride at least one new pass
Berthoud
Trail Ridge

So, who would like to join me in setting some goals for 2010.
We can check in throughout the year for encouragement, help
....whatever we need to meet our goals.
This time next year, we all meet back at this same place and share how we did.

What specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-targeted objectives
would you like to achieve this year???
Say it out loud....right here....right now and lets do it together.
You can change your world.

I'll see you on the road.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

Short and sweet = My no is going to be no, and my yes will be yes. That is all. Love and happiness to you all not just for 2010 but for all the years to come!

Create enough art work to have a show.

Work out twice a week and eat when I am hungry only.

Say NO (after I finish the 16 night gowns for the 16 daughters in the Pirate of Penzance) No NO!

My main goal for 2010 is to be healthy! I suspect there remains much to be discovered before my goal can be realized, but I'm going to be persistent and persevere!!!

I'm excited and optimistic about the new year....and curious about what's ahead.

May you all have a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

If there was no global recession going on, what would inspire you??

Several more dolls at least - they are small - Think Barbies. So it takes a lot to fill up a space. Each takes at least 30-50 hours to create.

Have to find a gallery - that is the hardest part. Marketing myself.
The second hardest part is giving myself permission to work on my dolls - after the housework, the volunteer work, the family commitments, ....

I have committed to be part of a show in the spring sometime which will be with other artists, I will probably be organizing part of it ... sigh... But at least then I don't have to take the risk of being rejected by the organizers.

I have a work in progress right now that I had planned to work on this week - except I have been sick all week so now the bloody 16 night gowns are going to take its place.

Then create for when they start buying. Create what you dream until they buy again.

Marietje
Yes I do. I gave up trying to figure out what will sell LOL because I never seem to know.

I have no problem with inspiration, just with giving myself permission to do what I love.

Santa brought me a sinus/chest infection for Xmas....I would rather have had the coal.
My therapy has been a real challenge for the past 10 days.
We are having a real winter this year.
Snow and ice....that isn't going anywhere...anytime soon.
I will not be riding outside anytime soon.

...but a day hasn't gone by that I haven't been looking at my maps.
Plotting rides, creating profiles, figuring milages, estimating times, setting dates.....

......just like visions of sugar plums....dancing in my head.

Nothing will stand in my way.

You know what I'm saying???
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything

I said that.

My goal: I AM going to solve my sleep problems. After I've had some good sleep I will think of some other goals. First things first.

Happy new year
