Love or hate the quattro

Post by Gerryk » Wed Dec 30, 2009 2:15 pm

Ok, I have been hearing lots and talking lots about the quattro. It seems and I am not the only one that has said this, that you either hate or love the quattro.
So I am making a poll to see what people say.

I love my Quatro. Now my girlfriend just told me today, that she hates using the quatro in the sleep lab because they always leak and the pinch the nose. But I vote Love it!!

No hate here, but it always leaked and I gave it a nice home in a drawer.

Much, much too leaky for me... But if they made a SoftGel cushion for it, who knows, it might work. I found that the Activa LT was also very leaky for me, but with the SoftGel cushion, it's the mask I use every night now.

res med is supposedly revamping the Quattro due to the leak that persists at the elbow. They do admit it is a design flaw, until they fix it I won't be recommending it.

I have no real love for any mask, but having said that...

The Quattro seems to work for me. My overnight AHI was 1.7 last night as reported on the machine LCD while leak was .12 ...while that is just one night I cannot complain about the results achieved over longer periods.

So this leaves me with a dilemma... do I add a 3rd Quattro to my collection -or- experiment with perhaps another mask. Common sense tells me to not mess with what is working... my experimental side tells me to try something with a little less facial plastic like the Resmed Swift.

I love the Quattro. Ironic thing is, never thought that I would. The fact of going to bed, looking like a jet pilot, looked very uncomfortable, but amazingly, I discovered the mask alot more comfortable then the pillows. The pillows gave me sore nostrils, many nights of sleep disturbance, pillows popping out of nose, tape coming off mouth, I spent more time, trying to make it work, then actually sleeping. With the Quattro, that's all I do now, is sleep

Well I'm kinda in between. I like the fact that the Quattro does not leak for me. I even got a 0.0 leak rate one night. I can toss and turn and not worry about my mask. No problem with pain on the bridge of my nose either. It reaIly is relatively comfortable, surprisingly so. I do get some marks along my cheeks but they generally disappear after my shower in the am. But it is such a big mask! It makes me feel like I really have a serious illness. With a smaller mask, I can be in denial somewhat. I am gonna try out the Opus tonight (with a chin strap). Wish me luck. I will keep the Quattro handy just in case.

I hate the quattro! I spent lots of money thinking it was going to solve my mouth leaking problems, and I can't wear it. Guess my face is shaped wrong for it because I can't find a way to stop the leaks no matter how hard I try. Even with the leaks, it damages my nose severely, but most masks do that. That being said, if I need a ff mask, I will do my best to make it work.

It worked well for me, but now I'm using the Ultra Mirage because my numbers have been lower. I don't really notice any difference in the fit or comfort.

I love it but I am now using a hybrid because I can't afford to drop $350 to get an new one when the hybrid costs me $130 with shipping. If Resmed would let cpap.com ship to canada I would buy a new liner, even try a smaller version but I will not go to that .... place where I got mine to begin with.

My thought about this question is that the poll is probably irrelevant in terms of deciding that the Quattro is or isn't a "good mask." Just my opinion here--but I'm thinking the effectiveness of any of the well-made FFM's is most likely primarily dependent upon the fit of the particular mask with the user's facial contours--rather than the materials or engineering in & of themselves. Thus the reason that those who don't do well with one, do well with another (the Quattro vs Ultra Mirage discussions seem to highlight this). I think that secondarily, the cushion qualities affect the effectiveness & proneness to leaks of FFM's for any given person.

On the other hand, I would say the opposite might be true for nasal pillow masks--that the engineering and qualities of the pillows themselves are absolutely the critical factor for effectiveness (beyond finding the right size for your nares). The sad case in point is the degradation of the manufactured quality of the Swift LT pillows over the past year and a half or so. (I will spare you all from noting the link to that discussion again here! )

Well my 33 day first report came back with a whoppinG 45SEC avg large leak per day the RT was happy with that (probably when I tilt open to itch nose or pop in the occasional antacid tablet)!. It has worked real well for me and has prevented back sleeping as when my lower jaw relaxes it loses its seal so I do not back sleep.

I know others have not had this kind of experience with it.

I go back and forth. I loved it at first, then it started blowing air into my eyes so much that they were bulging onto my waterline for hours after I got out of bed. I got the Comfortgel full, and that thing leaks like nothing I've ever seen so it made me appreciate the Quattro a lot more Of course, my DME never really sized me, she just threw me in mediums for both so who really knows? When I size myself here I should be in a small.

The Quattro is what I started with, prefer a full face over a nasal mask. I can't say I love it %100 but I don't hate it either. When it's positioned just right it's absolutely great. When it's not right, I end up with a sore & red bridge. Honestly, what seems to be echoed over & over on this forum is the nose bridge issue. The Quattro is quiet, well made, easy to care for, durable, easy to put on & take off. If Resmed would improve the seal design, it would be perfect.
