Sandman Auto Arrived Yesterday

Post by TXKajun » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:17 am

Woohoo! I finally got around to replacing my 3 yr old PB 420E with a brand-spanking new Covidian Sandman Auto! WooHoo (oh, I already said that! LOL)

What an impressive little machine. Smaller footprint by about 1/3 than my 420E, total redesign, and best of all, my humidifier doesn't run out of water after 6 hours sleep! The controls are well thought out, pretty simple to use and adjust, manuals are clear and concise and overall, it's a sweet little machine. Now, if only Covidian can get their act together and put out some working software discs, I'll be set.

The carrying case has compartments for each piece of the APAP and plenty of padding. I'm not sure if my usual 5' extension cord with a powerstrip will fit or not, haven't gotten that far yet. I'm still using my UMFF mask and it mates up with the APAP just fine.

Oh yeah, the hose is way different! On my 420E, there was a separate small tube that hooked up to the front of the 420E for feedback. The little nipple it slid onto was a weak spot in the system....broke one off after only 2 years use. Fortunately, I'd purchased my 420E from our hosts here and we worked out a replacement 420E that I've been using ever since. The Sandman Auto has a single tube, just like a CPAP. I'm not exactly sure how it gets the feedback to adjust pressures, but it does. Also, for the first time in a long time, when I woke up this morning and removed the mask, I could smell the different odors in the air...kinda dusty/smokey/fresh/desert smell. And yeppers, I definitely feel rested. It's a keeper! WooHoo!

A late Christmas present? It's always fun to get something new like that and use it. Kind of brings out the kid in us.
