My Mask Blows

Post by sherpaboy » Wed Dec 30, 2009 2:13 am

Ok it is quite that way, but it blows a constant stream of air out the vent on the nose.

Is this normal or should it start and stop as I breath.

Thanks,

Frank

No. Not normal. My mask did that so I changed masks to the Nose injection pillows. Works a treat now.

Is it coming out the front or where the mask touches your skin? If it is the front, well most masks have a built in leak to flush your exhaled co2. Hope this helps.

It is normal for air to constantly come out of the vent. Be sure not to block the vent with your sheets or arm. As Immo said, this air is expelled to flush out the carbon dioxide that you exhale into your mask. I hope that your therapy is going well, and welcome to the forum!

That is what I thought, but I was suprised it does it all the time, just a constant steady stream. It does not bother me, but my wife might not like it on a cold night.

Yes, that vent air can get a little chilly! It can also be a little irritating if your arm's in the way, but you get used to working around it. Some couples put a pillow between them to block the air from blowing onto their partner. There are a few masks that vent upward, so they blow the air out of the way. My AEIOMed Headrest nasal pillows mask does that. I wish they all would.

It does take some adjustment, but hopefully you'll get good results from your therapy. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. If you fill out your machine profile (via the "User Control Panel" at the top of the screen) it'll make it easier for people to help. There are a lot of very helpful people here, and you can find a lot of tips & tricks by searching the threads and the CPAP Wiki at the top of your screen.

The amount of air that comes out is dependant on what your pressure is set at. You didn't list your pressure so I don't know how much would be coming out. We would also need to know what mask or interface you are using. I used to be on a pressure of 21 and my mask vented enough to move the curtains over the window which was three feet away. WIth my pressure now dropped the curtains don't move and my wife doesn't complain about it.
