HELP! HI is 42 w/APAP & no leaks???

Post by Kemosabe2 » Sat Dec 26, 2009 1:16 pm

Hi Everyone,

Last night my HI was 42.0 on my APAP with no leaks. I don't understand why/how this can happen. It's my understanding that the APAP should respond to events so that this doesn't happen. I have to admit that I've been pushing myself a lot lately with the Holidays and not getting as much sleep as usual. Still, I expected the machine to bring the pressure up so where it needs to be to prevent something like this from happening. BTW, I had 0.0 apneas. That was good. I feel exhausted today. Thanks for your thoughts! Lisa

Lisa, what range of pressures (minimum/maximum) do you have your machine set for?

Do you have EPR turned on? If so, what setting for the EPR are you using.. 1, 2, or 3?

And what, if any, was the single pressure that was prescribed for you after your sleep study?

My pressure is set to 6.0-12.0. EPR is set to 3. Single pressure was set to 7.0 originally. I've gained 40 pounds since then. My average median is 6.8 and 95th percentile is 9.6. Average Max is 10.6.

I think if it were me and I had had a prescribed pressure of 7 from a sleep study, I'd set the S8 Autoset II this way -- depending on what EPR setting I wanted to use:

EPR 3, range 10 - 15

EPR 2, range 9 - 15

EPR 1, range 8 - 15

EPR off, range 7 - 15

I'm not a doctor. That's just how I'd use it.

I'd also spend a week or so trying the machine in straight CPAP mode to get another look at what single pressure works best -- again, deciding on what single pressure to try first, dependent upon what degree of EPR I wanted to use:

EPR 3, pressure 10
EPR 2, pressure 9
EPR 1, pressure 8
EPR off, pressure 7

Also, use the settling feature and set it to 30+ minutes. This will keep the APAP from recording data as you transition into sleep. Check you humidifier setting as it could be set too high or too low.
