Re: CPAP machine choices need help..
Since the ResMed machine they are offering is a very basic one, I expect the Respironics machine is too... you didn't mention the model name of the Respironics machine, but I'd bet it's a Respironics REMstar Plus M series machine. Very basic.
I'd not want either of those models. I'd want a model that can show AHI and Leak data. On the message board we call that info "full data" but don't waste your breath saying "full data" to the DME (home health care store) people. It would be a meaningless phrase to them. Or, they'd misunderstand and try to convince you that since those two basic machines can provide "compliance" data (hours of use) that makes them be "data" or "full data" machines.
Instead, go to them armed with the exact full names of the only CPAP machines you will accept. These machines, and no other.
ResMed S8 Elite II with EPR
Respironics REMstar Pro M series with C-Flex
They might try to offer you something else, telling you it's the "newest", the "best", the "top of the line", the "most recent model", blah blah. For example, there is a newer Respironics machine called the Philips Respironics System One. I would not want a "System One" machine...not yet. Not until it's been out there quite awhile. And not until software is available that could help a person monitor their own treatment.
The kind of data provided in the LCD of the System One machine is not anywhere near as detailed as the data you'd be able to see in the LCD of the ResMed S8 Elite II.
If the DME will not follow through satisfactorily with a polite request from you for one of those two machines I listed, then I'd find another DME. Check with your insurance company to see who they deal with in your area.
