Insurance and New Machines:

Post by momsworry » Wed Dec 16, 2009 1:01 pm

I've just gone past my third cpap anniversary by a few days. I've been 100% compliant I'm happy to say. I'm wondering, is my machine getting high end on hours? When can one expect these items to "crap out" on ya? When typically will insurance go along with a new machine on the average? Also, when I got this Respironics machine three years ago, I didn't get one that was capable of data recording. I now would like to upgrade to a machine with that capability. Do I need a new prescription or should I just try to work that out with the vendor?

That all depends on your insurance company. Mine BCBS of Illinois used to be a new machine every two years. Now they will pay to fix a broken machine if it isn't more expensive than a used one. Their is no more time limit on how long till you can get a new machine with my insurance.
They will buy a new one if your doc changes the script like mine went from cpap to BiPap.
