Which is the quietest mask?

I am now using Profile Lite mask,but it seems to be very noisy in high pressure.Now,it's winter time,and a lot of rainout,which sometimes came out of the maks.It's really tough these nights.Can anyone recommend a quieter mask?

With helps here in the forum,I have selected several masks below.Hope you guys can comment for me,and welcome new suggestions as well.

You haven't listed it, but the Soyala is noted to be very quiet, whether or not it otherwise would be a good mask for you.

The Activa LT, SoftGel, and Micro have the same type of diffusion. I've used them all and they're the most quiet of all the masks I've tried. I've not used the Soyola mask, but I can't imagine it getting more quiet than these three Resmed masks. Also, the Activa LT and SoftGel use the same frame so you can use the cushions interchangeably.

Do you have a cover on your hose? What is your humidifier setting? How cold does it get in your bedroom?

The generally acknowledged "quietest mask" is the F&P HC405.... whether it would suit your needs is another matter entirely.

I do not use the humidifier at all.The room temperature is nearly 4-5 degree Celsius.

Cover on the hose?You mean cover the hose with a towel or a sheet?However,the hose is a little bit long.Should I cover all the length of the hose?

Are there any objective measurements of mask noise akin to the decibel levels measured for each machine?

I hate to admit this, but I'm not even sure what people mean when they say if a mask is noisy or not. Is it the sound of the air being expelled through the vent hole? Or the sound of the air entering the mask from the hose? Or does the type of mask change the sound of the XPAP machine?

(My mask seems to be either dead silent when it is working well or laughing sinisterly when it is not.)

I find the Mirage Comfortgel to be quiet, as long as I have it adjusted properly. If it leaks, it gets noisy fast!

Wow, it's cold wherever you are! Until you get a hose cover, could you put your hose under the covers with you? There are hose covers you can buy, like here

or others have sewn one. Its just a long tube made out of fleece material, then closed at each end with velcro, but you could use hair scrunchies. I don't knit, but wouldn't a knitted one be be cozy?

I don't see any mention of pillows masks, but I can tell you that the OptiLife *claimed* to be the quietest when it was released about 3 years ago, and the Opus is much quieter than the OptiLife.

If you're not using the humidifier, I don't know how you could have rainout. Rainout happens when the warm moist air from the heated humidifier passes through the cold hose. If the air going through the hose isn't heated, there should not be any rainout.

Further up thread, Sleepybaby said it is 4-5 degrees Celcius in her room--that's 39 degrees Fahrenheit. So what I think is happening is that when she exhales, her warm breath is hitting the cold mask and hose, and forming condensation, thus rainout.

Yes, I know that. But if the air in her room is 4-5°C, and she's not heating the air in her CPAP, then both the hose and the air in it should be at the same temperature. It shouldn't matter *what* temperature that is; rainout happens when the air is warmer than the hose.

Suppose you had two drinking glasses. You kept one in the cupboard and one in the freezer. If you took the one out of the freezer and set it on the counter, then you would get condensation, because the air is much warmer than the glass. That's how rainout happens. But you took the one out of the cupboard and set it on the counter, nothing would happen, because the glass and the air are the same temperature. That should be how it works for the OP--it shouldn't matter what temperature the air *is*; it just matters whether they're different temperatures or not.

EDIT: You edited your post after I replied ... I don't think that if her breath is condensing inside that mask that's technically "rainout" but you could be right that it's what she's describing. A hose cover wouldn't help in that case, or a heated hose, or anything. There's nothing you can do about the part of the mask that seals to your face being too cold.

I have pillow rainout...not quite back enough to resort to the cotton string inside but I have toyed with the idea of making a fleece cozy
