BAD dog!

Post by xiola » Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:39 am

About a year ago i banished the dogs from my bedroom. I (ha ha) wanted to get better sleep. So now they spend the night on the couch, no big deal.

I had taken the nasal pillow part of my mask off the previous morning because there was a tiny bit of condensatin in it, and set it on my bedside table.

I discovered it missing when i went to bed last night. couldn't find it anywhere! I looked behind the bed, under the bed, under the dressers, I moved all the furiture, I even looked in my pillowcases.. nowhere! I ended up sleeping with the wrong size mask (made a huge difference, stupid thing leaked allll night)

I use a babygate to keep the dogs out of the bedroom. Apparently yesterday i didn't close it all the way. while I was in the shower one of the dogs (and oh i know which one....the BAD one lol) went into the bedroom, took the nasal pillow part of my mask and carried it into the other room.

I found it this morning. chewed beyond repair. About to call my DME and hope they can get another one to me quickly!

bad dogs I love them, but if they were going to be destructive, I wish they'd chosen a shoe instead.

I know alllll about bad dogs. They are quite devious too. But I love them too. HOpefully you can get another pillow to replace the one that is gone.

Geez, even my DME offers the Swift LT nasal pillows as a replacement. Most insurance will allow for 2 replacement nasal pillows a month. Does your DME expect you to buy a whole new mask get up when you need a new nasal pillow???

I can get 2 a month and have the insurance pay all but $5 and change for each. Don't know your insurance replacement schedule but for a whole new mask get up most will allow only 1 every 6 months (if you are lucky every 3 months). It is unrealistic to expect the nasal pillow to last that long. Even Medicare allows for replacement pillows and/or cushions for the nasal mask systems at a rate of 2 per month. Check with your insurance company as to your allowable replacements if you have insurance. Your DME is being a butthead (or the other anatomical adjective).

Our new puppy got my nasal pillows (removed to clean and let dry) after the kitty knocked it onto the floor. It was brand new, used one night only. Luckily I had several spares rat holed for just such an occurrence.

I called my insurance company. I have no time restriction on replacement parts for the mask, am able to replace as needed "due to normal wear/tear"

Maybe they wouldn't replace it because i said my dog chewed it up and that isn't normal wear/tear.

but I think i need to call the DME and ask for an explanation. they need to clarify if they do not, in fact, ever sell the replacement pillows.

What a bad, bad, BAD DME!

It always amazes me when a bricks/mortar DME won't bend over backwards just a leeetle bit to help someone who is obviously really trying to use CPAP.

Now if you went back again, about a second chewed up set of nasal pillows... yeah. But they aren't willing to help you at least once with a rather small thing....?!! And it's something that ResMed would likely send them free in order to keep their business. If they'd just go to a slight amount of trouble to ask for it.

Heck, if they'd just look around a little, they likely have a set of nasal pillows stuck back somewhere.

sheesh.
