New machine. Have some numbers...

Post by modistee » Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:52 pm

Finally got my new machine upgraded from the Resmed Escape to the Resmed Elite II. I like it much better. Seems to go with my breathing a lot better than the other one did. The one one didnt give the exhalation relief at the right times. Anyway trying to get brave and look up some stuff on it and found these numbers. AHI is 7.0 AI is .4 and HI is 6.6. What do these mean.????? Thanks for any info....

The AHI of 7.0 means that you experienced 7 apneas plus hypopneas per hour that night. The AI of 0.4 means you experienced 0.4 apneas per hour, which is good, always good to have an AI under 1.0. The 6.6 HI means you experienced 6.6 hypopneas per hour that night. So there is room for improvement w/the hypopneas. Now, Resmeds do tend to score hypopneas more aggressively than the other brands so I wouldn't get in a twit about this too soon. I'm always leery of the "first night effect" and prefer to get AT LEAST 2-3 nights of data BEFORE attempting any changes, preferably a full week. And when I do make a change I've found it best to make ONE CHANGE at a time for ONE WEEK at a time unless that change turns out to be a real obvious disaster. (One change includes a mask change, not just a pressure setting change).

IF you do change masks, do not forget that the MaskSelection might need to be changed as well.
