getting rescan software

Post by flylow » Fri Nov 13, 2009 1:29 pm

I am tired of the manual titrations (pressure requirements seem to change from day to day) and am finally trying to get an auto from my dme. My doctor is very helpful and always asks if I have what I need. So today, I left a request for a prescription to be written to my dme (the one suggested by my doctor) for the S8 autoset II. The office staff know so little and the last time I dictated the need for a repiratory therapist to fit me with a new mask, it got so screwed up. This time I wrote out exactly what I wanted the prescription to say. We will see how it goes.

So if I get what I requested, I will need software. Where is the best place to get it and the card reader? Thanks.

This is just my thought but it seems you are a long way off from needing a card reader and ResScan software for the S8 AutoSet II. When you get the machine you may see a great improvement (or not) and may decide you do not have to spend the money on the card reader.

I thought you were going somewhere else with this..... as in I don't have the machine yet and still have the insurance and dme fight to get through.

Here is my thought on improvement. Today it was obvious to me that my AHI was above 5 and the respironics software from my machine validated the way I felt. I also know that leaks were not at the heart of my therapy. Most times, it is subtle and may not notice even though there is an effect on you.

You can throw on the mask at the pressure you were titrated to and have improvement but I want the therapy to be the best that it can be. For that you need information that can only be obtained via the software.

If you think you are good and are content with that, great. Many people are that way. I will never be content with this especially since improvement is almost always possible. I have yet to see 0 AHI and highly doubt I ever will but I will always endeavor to get there.

HI Flylow, and welcome.
The Rescan software and card reader can be ordered from http://www.cpapaustralia.com
I believe the cardreader can also be obtained from cpap.com, but you could check their website or call them to be sure.

When I started OSA therapy I was given a ResMed S8 Elite II CPAP machine and it was not giving me the therapy I needed - my numbers were horrible and I could not get them down no matter what I tried and what pressure I set the machine to deliver. I got the REsScan Software and card reader and carfully recorded my data in a log and using the software for about 4 months. I studied up on the differences between CPAP and APAP and all the available machines and came to the conclusion that I would receive better therapy using a ResMed S8 AutoSet II APAP machine. I saw my sleep doctor and presented my data and arguments to him and asked him to prescribe the ResMed S8 AutoSet II APAP and he did in a heartbeat. Since starting on APAP I feel great and my numbers are where I hoped they would be. I have never gotten my AHI to 0.0 but usually my AI is near 0.0 and my AHI is usually less than 3.0. I'm happy where I am and will admit the ResMed ResScan software and card reader helped me get where I am. But I had the ResMed machines before I purchased the card reader and software. That was my point. Get the AutoSet II and try it for awhile. It gives you LED readouts each day as follows:

11/06/09 Leak in L/s = 0.26
AHI = 2.4
AI = 0.1
HI = 2.3
Use in hrs = 6.54
95th percentile pressure in cm H2O = 11.8

11/07/09 Leak in L/s = 0.28
AHI = 2.4
AI = 0.1
HI = 2.3
Use in hrs = 6.05
95th percentile pressure in cm H2O = 11.8

11/08/09 Leak in L/s = 0.20
AHI = 2.8
AI = 0.1
HI = 2.7
Use in hrs = 6.56

Ebay! I made a best offer of $19 and got the software.

The card reader is an ACR38U (http://www.smartcardsupply.com/Content/ ... /ACR38.htm). Call them and make sure they send the U. The drivers (only ones recognized by ResScan) are different than the CCID. IMPORTANT!

IMPORTANT!! Disable any wireless LAN adaptors otherwise ResScan WILL NOT SEE THE READER!!!!!

You are showing a data capable machine, why you would want to change brands puzzles me, Encore Pro is better software in the first place. I'd use Encore Pro and spend my time and money getting a mask theat worked better for me of pinning down why the treatment wasn't the best. Jim

Some people like Encore, some people like ResScan. You say potato and I say potato, you say tomato...

I don't have a problem with the data from the m series pro. I have a problem with the variability of my data despite good leak performance from my current mask (quattro). What I want is an auto machine so that I have a chance of more quickly learning new pressure requirements or to give the machine an opportunity to titrate out the days I am all stuffed up (high pressure drop across my nose) or back sleeping or what ever it is that changes the pressure requirement from moment to moment. I have no idea how it will play out but after two years of chasing pressures, it is time to find out.

I do not have insurance approval yet but I got what I needed from my doctor and dme so far. The are talking about a Resmed Autoset Vantage. Does anyone have any idea on this machine? I was going for the S8 autoset II. Is the autoset vantage the same machine as the S8 autoset II?

I believe the Vantage is an older model. I'd fight for the S8 AutoSet II APAP. The S8 Vantage has a sound level of 31 dBA and the S8 AutoSet II has a sound level of 24 dBA if noise matters to you. A newer design is not always a better design but I believe the Vantage is a discontinued model so I expect it is far less expensive.

Also, IIRC, the Vantage will not do EPR in APAP mode, only in CPAP mode. The Autoset does not suffer from this limitation. I'm pretty sure, anyway...

AutoSet II is the latest and has EPR in both modes (Auto and CPAP). It is quieter than the Vantage, I've used both.

Get the Autoset II S8.
Gives you all the options and choices for YOUR therapy.

I just got my second Resmed......backup system.

Resistance was futile.

My DME says no problem on my insistance to the S8 autoset II. Now they need to verify with the insurance which can take up to 2 weeks. No wonder I bought my own the first time. I can afford to be patient because I have a working straight cpap and it looks like I will get what I want ultimately.
