water replacement in the water tank

Post by boscov » Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:46 pm

Hi everybody
I am a newcomer in the world of CPAP. How often should I change the water in the humidifier? I have not found destilled water in my town (Brazil) excpt the destilee water sold in gas statin for use in cars, batteries, etc. I don´t think it is fit for human health. I found de-ionized water. Would it be OK?
Tks a lot. JOAO BOSCO from Brazil

Do not use de-ionized water !!!!
If you can find decent tap water use that and empty the unused water out each morning and fill it from empty each night.
You can buy a water distiller that will make distilled water from your clean tap water.

If the water where you live is very hard (filled with calcium ... you'll know if things left to air-dry, like dishes, have white or brown spots on them) you can use Dasani bottled water, which is essentially just tap water. Do not use a mineral water or a brand that advertises it has added minerals like Evian. Empty and dry the tank every day.

Why do you think the distilled water in gas stations isn't usable? If the distilling equipment is clean and the container it's sold in is clean, why wouldn't it be?
