Post by boscov » Sun Nov 08, 2009 5:43 am

I have just bought my brand new Respironics System One CPAP with integrated humidifier but the heater plate is not heating. Can anyone help me? Thank you from Brazil (Joao Bosco)

I do not know about that new machine. But, their older model (M series) will not heat up unless the blower is on and the airflow ( volume) is restricted. Open hose airflow will not let the heater come on. You need to turn it on and hold a tissue in the hose so a small amount of air leaks out. ( like in normal use) before the heater comes on.

My M series has 2 warranty replacements of the heater plate.

There is a recall out for the M series Pro machines because of problems with the humidifier heater. I wonder if this problem may have crept into other models as well. It sounds like an intermittent hight resistance connection that heats up and fails.

What is the settings for the humidifier - it goes from 0 to 5 (0=off; 5=max). Also the humidifier setting can be controlled and set from the clinician setup menu.

For what this may be worth, I have a friend who had a similar problem although not on a Respironics. She found that she had a somewhat flisy stand which it sat on and it was not level. she moved it and bingo all was well.
Hey anything is worth a try right?
