New User in Heaven

I wanted to share my experience with all of you. I started using my C-Pap machine about 3 weeks ago and changed from the pillows to a Quattro full face mask about 2 weeks ago. I am also taking a medication for my RLS, which was severe. Anyway, I can't tell you how much better I am feeling. So rested and energized. I even think that I might have been walking around for years with a mild form of depression, and didn't know it. I feel like I am coming out of a black hole.

Anyway, for any of you who are struggling - it is so worth it. I went into this situation kicking and screaming. After my sleep study I even told my family doctor that I wouldn't use one. But, I am so glad that I am. Once the machine was delivered, I just told myself that I was JUST GOING TO MAKE THIS WORK.

And it has. Good luck to all of you!

restless legs are sometimes cured by using a CPAP
I had similar problems, it took me a full 3 months before I could use my CPAP every night

persistance and a positive attitude is needed, as we have both found

some say fully half of those prescribed a CPAP never get used to using it
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored

Well, I start my second night of CPAP in a few minutes. The first night was not horrible, but, I did turn up the humidifier. And, today I was sneezing most of the day finally checked by taking a benedryl. Tonight, I'm starting with the humidifier on highest setting, and we'll see what tomorrow brings. My life has become so challenged by symptoms, I'll do anything to continue therapy for results. It's great to hear good results, and a positive attitude. No, I don't like the prospect of wearing this the rest of my life, but it is a miracle considering the alternative path I was on. Thanks for shining a light on success. Keep it up, and I will too.

123 keep playing with the humidifier settings. Some do better with a high setting, others are like me and find that a passover mode is better. Passover mode is where the heat is turned off.

Everyone is different and there is no "right" setting on the humidifier, so if one setting doesn't work try another.

Me too. I always assumed you would not have to use one there. When I saw your subject line, I was about to ask for a ticket in the other direction. I am sure plenty of you would like to give me one.

I think there is a half price sale thru this weekend on tickets in the other direction. Let me check with my contact and get back to you.

Some of us will still use one, in Passover mode of course.

123, I wanted to mention that with the humidifier on the highest setting you may experience what we call rainout. That happens when the warm moist air cools enough for the moisture to condense and form droplets in your mask, and then in your nose. It will wake you up most likely if it happens. I hope with this note that if it happens you will know what it is and not be too surprised.

One thing that can help prevent rainout is to have your machine lower than your head so the drops of water go back downhill. Another help is to cover the hose that goes to the machine. People use fleece covers mostly, but temporary things like towels or socks with the toes cut off can work in a pinch. You might want to think about a solution in advance.

There is lots of info about rainout here, and most of us experience it at one time or another.

You are at the start of a different kind of journey. You will find that your fellow travelers here will be very helpful and encouraging along the way. Good luck to you and bon voyage!
