waking up congested

Post by Robadob » Mon Nov 02, 2009 4:41 pm

I've been waking up congested. It's to the point that I thought I was getting a cold, but as the day progresses, I'm fine.

Too much humidity? Not enough?
Any other ideas?

TIA

It could be too much or too little humidity. I live in Canada and use pass over humidity most of the year (water in the chamber but no heat).

Now that we are getting colder weather, I have my humidity set at 1 1/2 to 2.

You need to experiement with more and less to see if your congestion eases.

I don't know what your current humidity setting is. I would try it down some, or use it in pass over mode, for a few nights and see how that goes. If you are too dried out, then maybe a slightly lower setting than you currently have will help. Then again, you may need it set higher.

Everyone is different and the weather where you are can also influence the level you need at any given time of the year.

Probably not enough humidity. I see you are using nasal pillows. They are the worst for these kinds of symptoms (from my personal experience). You might want to switch to a full face or hybrid. Another aid is Ayre gel. It is inexpensive. You put a bit on you pinky finger and spread it inside your nostrils. It helps, but you may still need you humidifier. When I was using Swift, I had my humidifier on 4 or 5 most of the time.
Another problem may be filters. Be sure you either replace or wash them on a regular basis. Dirty, dust-covered filters are worse than not enough humidity. I have to change them monthly during hay fever season. My repsiratory therapist recommends every 3 months otherwise.
