Does my machine need adjustments
Does my machine need adjustments
I've had my machine for one week and I'm ready to return it. I've already changed masks once and now I'm concerned about the settings on my machine. The intake of air is fine, it's when I exhale that I have an issue. It's like I have to force the air out. When I start falling asleep and relax, I don't force the air out and eventually, my mouth fills up and "pops" like a ballon. Of course, that wakes me up. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong or is there an adjustment needed on my machine?

I've had a lesser version of the cheek-filling thing and I think that will get better as you get used to CPAP. I don't have any tricks for it except to possibly use a chin strap or something else around the head that will help keep the cheeks from filling up. I've seen that on these boards before.
If you fill out your profile so we know your machine someone will be able to better help you. It sounds like your machine gives you a single set pressure. There are units designed to drop the pressure somewhat during exhale. Does your machine have an exhale relief feature? This would be something like CFlex in some of the Respironics machines.
You might contact your doctor or DME and explain the issue. If you are having so much trouble upon exhale maybe you can be switched to something else, or a setting turned on that isn't currently enabled.

I don't know what kind of mask you are using. although many people resist a full face mask, in fact it has always been easier for me because the entire airway, including my mouth is pressurized. In this way, no air pushes into my mouth and I find this much easier.
You'll get used to it.

I had this when my pressure was 8.5 on a machine with no exhale relief.Crazywith3 wrote:I've had my machine for one week and I'm ready to return it. I don't have this when the pressure is 10 and and Exhale Pressure relief on the machine is 2.
Bottom line: Whe have to know far more about your equipment.
If you register, you can use use the "User Control Panel" to add your equipment to your profile; you'll find the link about a third of the way down the left side of the screen.
