I have a very positional type of severe OSA and have been sleeping on my side for the past 9 months, with a lot of issues like difficult falling asleep, leaks, aerophagia, and AHI's between 12-25 on a nightly basis. Last week I injured my shoulder and found the only comfortable position was sitting on my couch with my feet up on an ottoman. I put on my cpap HC431 mask and fell asleep in about 5 minutes, and woke up the next morning having slept 7 hours straight though, feeling refreshed for the 1st time in ages. I've done that every night ever since, and continue to have good luck and good numbers...AHI's below 5 for the first time, very few leak issues, easy to fall asleep.
Other than not sleeping in bed with my wife, is anyone away of any problems inherent in sleeping in a sitting position? Is there any effect on the sleep stages? I've searched this site and the internet for information on 'sleeping while sitting' and can't seem to find much. I'm thinking about trying to find a back and armrest pillow so I can rejoin my wife in bed.
Can anyone share their experience or knowledge regarding sleeping in a sitting position?
Thanks

My daughters used to call those "Husband" pillows (years ago when they were in school)----- Perhaps you might refer to yours as a "Hello, wife!" pillow.

My father-in-law has sleep apnea. They have one of those beds where you can raise and lower each half. They sleep in a reclined position and it works well for him and my mother-in-law. Perhaps you could look into one of those beds?

You might want to ask your GP or even a cardiologist about circulation issues. I'm not 100% sure that the position (comfortable as it may be for odd naps) is necessarily the best thing for e.g. legs when your upper body is not also prone.

I tried to sleep on high wedge pillow (like 45 degree up) and couldn't. it is like blood doesn't reach my brain while I am falling asleep sitting up like that. I felt like my sleep was very light and insomniac. but if you feel refreshed then good for you. you actually enticing me to try that experiement again with CPAP, because I tried it before without CPAP
