Lansinoh Use

Post by sheldonb » Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:57 pm

Hi, I bought a tube of Lansinoh (thank goodness my wife was with me ) Exactly where do you apply to the nose pillows and just how much? How effective? Thanks.

I want to bump this back up the top because I'm interested in the responses. What I've done, which hasn't been particularly effective, is put some of the lansinoh on the very inside edges of my nostrils. I never noticed it having any special effect and have basically stopped using it since I started tying a shoelace around my head to hold the nasal pillows in place. That's working well for me.

I don't apply to the pillows. Like rubymom stated, take some of the lanolin and rub it on your nares and you're good to go.

As the self-proclaimed expert on nipple grease, here's what I do:

Put your thumb over the opening in the cap (I almost said "nipple" but that would be crude!) Squeeze just until you feel the column of grease touch your skin. The slight amount that sticks to your thumb is plenty. Yes, it really is! Use your thumb to spread it all around the OUTSIDE of your nostril opening (nare?) Do NOT stick your thumb IN your nose...just as Mom always told you! Get another slight dab on your thumb and do the other side. If you are thinking "That can't be enough", then it's just right. Too much and the pillow will "blow out" when the pressure is on. That's when you'll know it really WAS enough. Pet the cat to remove any excess grease from your thumb. And you're done!

Unless you need to use some for its intended purpose (or any other perverse purpose, for that matter...), that one tube is a lifetime supply. Have fun, but not TOO much fun.

LinkC, whoa there. On the OUTSIDE of the nostril opening. But wait, the pillows go on the INSIDE. This seems counter intuitive. Just checking. You mean kinda on the bottom of the nose/nares, but not inside, right? I bought lanisoh today (actuallly CVS brand). And can't wait until tonight to try on my Liberty Hybrid...

On the bottom of the nose. Use the flat of your thumb only. The pillowtip DOES extend up into the nostril, but the seal is between the bottom surface of the nose and the wide "seat" of the pillow. That's where you want the grease. If you get grease up at the tip, a blowout is more likely.

Just a dab between thumb and forefinger for me. Smear the leftover on your lips or your knuckles.

Slop it on...anywhere the silicone nosepiece touches your skin. If you use "too much" it won't hurt a thing! Too little and you might not seal as well. Better to err on the side of too much.

Absolutely great responses! Will try LinkC's idea. I guess the tendency is to overdo it, but I've been experimenting for 6 months, so what is another night or two. I actually have a full face mask that I use on occasion, but very uncomfortable. I just can't take that pressure on the forehead. No nasal pillows only replaced by more discomfort. Thanks again to everybody.

Good luck, Gary G. Maybe we can compare notes. I also have the Liberty Hybrid.

OK, Lansinoh with panty hose (sounds a bit silly) worked very well. My right nostril is larger than my left (causing leakage), so I may cut an extra pair of nose pillows and use one medium and one large. The leakage was in my larger nostril and I needed a lot more Lansinoh than I thought. I must say though that I slept great with the combination. Now if it will only last. Again, thanks for the advice.

fwiw- Too large is NO Problem - it is too small that leaks.

Couldn't get a good seal for some reason. Got tired, and went back to the Activa for the night. I had washed the nasal pillows in mild soap and water, but probably should have washed everything I guess.

HI Gary. A thin band of panty hose is comfortable and reasonably effective right under the nasal pillows. I only wash the mask once a week. It would be quite a chore to do every day. As long as I'm using the Lansinoh, I'll at least wash the nose pillows daily. We'll eventually get there.
