First night with Quatro

Last night was my first night using a Mirage Quattro full face mask. I had been using a Fisher & Paykel Zest nasal mask. I tried a full face mask because of persistent nasal congestion that was not helped by any combination of sprays, rinses, humidifier, etc. I also was still snoring some of he time and had fragmented sleep and sleep maintenance insomnia.

I liked the Quattro instantly because I felt the air flow was much better even when I had my mouth closed. I fell asleep quickly and slept for about four hours, which is my typical pattern. I fell back asleep in less than an hour and got about seven hours of sleep altogether. This is much better than usual for me. I was a bit groggy at first be soon felt much better and more well rested than I had in a long time.

My leak rate for the night was 0.1 L/s. My typical leak rate for my nasal mask was 0.04L/s. My AHI for the night was 6.1. I had been averaging and AHI of 2.1 with the nasal mask. By the numbers the quality of my sleep was a bit worse, but having more hours of sleep more than made up for it.

Here is the curious part; I snored all night long with the full face mask on. I had been snoring only occasionally with nasal mask. I realized when I got up that I had not changed the mask setting. I have a ResMed S8 Elite II. It had been set to Standard for an non-ResMed mask. I changed the setting to the Quattro.

I assume that if the snoring persists I will need to increase the pressure. My current pressure setting is 8.4. I was titrated at 6 early this summer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Some of the earlier Quattro masks suffered from a leak at the elbow joint at main plastic part of the mask. It took me a few days to realize i had this problem as one morning i woke and the mask was very loud. Since then i pulled apart the elbow and wrapped teflon tape around each end and reassembled. Now i can get 0.0 leaks with mask type set to MIR FULL (there is no setting named Quattro)
