Looking for IntelliPap CPAP Users

Post by Catatrina » Wed Oct 14, 2009 8:33 pm

I would like to get the IntelliPap CPAP machine and I need to know if its a good machine? Especially interested in how quiet the machine is? Are most people fairly satisfied with this machine. I presently have M-Series Autopap and I noted when looking at my equipment that its rating for level of noise is 31 which might explain why I can't tolerate noise factor neither can my neighbors. I tried getting something that Philips Resperonics suggested to muffle the noise but it didn't work. Per my DME my insurance company won't pay for another machine. So to save my sanity and my neighbors I will pay out of pocket. But I need to know what those that have this machine [IntellliPap] like about it and don't like. I did read the comments cpap.com challenge which won over Resperonics. But if i am going to pay out of pocket I want to be at least 90% sure this is the machine for me. My DME is going to send me Swift LT for Her mask out, I have been using Quattro FF mask but I would prefer Nasal Pillow, I liked the Fisher & Paykal Opus which was okay but it did leak quite a bit. It was light weight which was great but not real sturdy. So I am hoping the combination of different mask and better CPAP machine at least with lower level of noise I think it is 26 decibel. I liked the fact that there was a 3 yr warranty also. Do I really need to get all the SmartCard Software as well? I would appreciate any feedback on this machine. I want to make a change ASAP for I know that CPAP therapy is important and I feel better when I use it daily as I do but I like to be able to sleep through the night - I usually last about 4 to 5 hours sometimes longer but if I take my ear plugs out forget it. I try using fan as white noise, etc..but that only helps to an extent. By the way i celebrated 1 whole year with CPAP therapy 9/3/08 and I know it can help otherwise I would have given up a long time ago. So I am hanging in there but I need a different machine and need any suggestions

I LOVE the Intellipap Autoadjust. It is my favorite Cpap of four that I have used in the course of 11 years of treatment. I had an M series provided by the DME, and insurance, and HATED it. It is now my backup machine. I found it noisy, quirky, and vastly overrated, considering it is a mainstream machine from one of the "major companies." Before that, I had a Virtuoso LX that was one of the earlier autopaps, but was dependable, and lasted for 6 years. So, why did I pick the Intellipap over some of its competitors? Easy--it is so quiet, you literally do not know it is on. Second, the menus are very intuitive and easy to tweak when necessary. The compactness made it additionally desirable. Most significantly, it works extremely well. I breathe against it (exhale) very comfortably. It seems to match my breathing rhythm so well. It also interfaces well with both nasal pillows and nasal masks. In addition, the smart code makes it easy to monitor treatment without additional software. It has been a slam dunk for me--I LOVE it, and would recommend it to anybody.

This is a good place to learn more about the Intellipap: http://intellipap-aflex-auto.cpaptalk.com/

While it is apparently a great machine for many, it didn't work at all for me and I need the Resperonics algorithm to treat my apnea.

I have been using an IntelliPAP auto for just shy of six months now. It has worked great for me. The machine is very quiet. When I sleep at night, the CPAP-relatd noises are dominated by the intentional mask leak. Although I live next to a superhighway, and a zoo (LOTS of interesting noises at night!), I have also found this machine to be quiet when I have had chances to sleep some places whee it is really quiet. One thing that helps with any machine is to keep it below the edge of the bed.

I also like the fact that the IntelliPAP will run easily off of automotive-grade DC power, or just about any (suitably sized) 12 volt battery. I have used my machine battery powered a couple of times now, and the results were entirely satisfactory. You can also leave the battery connected all the time, and it will take over should you have a power failure.

For travel, the machine is easy to pack and carry. The bag included holds everything you need, including hose and mask. There is space for AC and DC power cables.

I have the full Smartlink software package. It is not the best product on the market for depth of data, but it has been adequate for me. It uses a snap-on data module that stays on the back of the machine. It is a bit tricky to get it on properly the first time (I have a trick for doing it), but after that, you rarely have to remove it, even for travel. If you want to save money, you can use the built-in Smartcode feature to get data online from the DeVilbiss or CPAP.COM website. Smartlink can be added at any time in the future, if you don't get it right away. One caveat with the reader software: You really do need Windows XP, Vista or 7 to use the software. I have not been able to get it to work on Linux with things like WINE. Don't know about the Mac.

The only drawback I have had with this machine is its tendency to sometimes 'run away' with pressure. I have found that this is an indication your lower limit pressure is too low. When you get close to your titrated pressure, the machine behaves very well. Can't comment on how machine compares to others in breathing comfort as this is the only machine I have had. But most comments on it have been very positive.

I have several CPAPs and my IntelliPAPs are my favorites. I bought the basic unit and then later bought an auto IntelliPAP.
