Whu my AHI is so hi?
Whu my AHI is so hi?
HI I am new to CPAP only about 2 weeks with the machine!! I am using the Rescan software to monitor my therapy, I did notice that I did better with Cpap intead of Auto (I will experiment with settings to review more days with the Auto Setting) But I notice that my AHI decreased from the 20's to a 15's or some lower!! I also notice that it is my HI that is the higher!! My AI stays most time below 5. In some post I saw something about the Resmed machines giving higher HI. I am a irregular breather so maybe I think it causing the high HI but in this report I did notice that the AHI is in 10 with no events!!! What's going on? does I need to worry about the highs HI #?

No, I don't think you need to worry at all. But I'm not a doctor.afcdmc wrote:does I need to worry about the highs HI #?

Good question and nice chart presentation!
I have been told that a high HI is not as worrisome as the high AI. In fact some people have successful treatment with their HI usually above 10 or so.
But I could be corrected by someone who knows more than I do.

That's only partially true, and then only on the Autoset.dkdc wrote:Good question and nice chart presentation!

What the Autoset records as hypopneas may be the result of tossing and turning, sighs and pauses that are not recorded as hypopneas by other machines. Which is why I agree with Rested Gal.
On this chart, afcdmc, the hypopneas (blue horizontal marks) seem to happen mostly when the machine is ramping. If you don't need the ramp to start at 4, you may be better off with it starting higher. 5 -6?

Is there a fuller discussion of this somewhere? I hear REsmed machines over tag the hypopneas - but I don't really understand why/how much
Also, I have read that having a high HI on any machine is not necessarily bad - the only way to really tell if you are doing ok is to look for trends and to check how you feel long term. Particularly those with mild AHI before starting cpap may take a long time to get their numbers down, and may never get them down that much and still have successful therapy.
Maybe this is all wrong, but many seemingly knowledgeable people are saying this.
Perhaps I am posting on a thread where the context is different than in those threads?

Well, some of the following links contain my non-medical opinion, and I can sure be wrong. Velbor's chart is very interesting.
