Snores and AHI

Post by track » Fri Sep 25, 2009 12:26 pm

If my snores have no effect on AHI readings is there any reason to give them any importance? The reason I ask....at a pressure of 9 my snores go up but my AHI is around 1. MY wife says I am not snoring but the machine says otherwise. At a pressure of 11 my snores go down but my AHI goes up a hair...not very much... a half a point on average.

http://sleepapnea.respironics.com/techn ... aspx#snore

"Snore
Snoring is a measure of partial airway occlusion and is a strong indicator of potential respiratory events. The REMstar Auto has the capability to detect snoring vibrations and adjust the pressure accordingly."

I guess snores are important enough to try to prevent with the auto unit. Other than this information above, I haven't seen any other in depth explanation.

That's essentially what I encountered. At a pressure of 10, my AHI wasn't any different than it was after I went up to 12. However, those two centimeters (and some nasal cleansing before bedtime) seriously dropped my snoring levels.
This led me to believe that some of these factors aren't necessarily a "cause and effect" relationship. (at least in my case)
