IntelliPAP Firmware Upgrade

Post by DeVilbiss Marketing » Fri Sep 18, 2009 10:21 am

Based on the feedback from this forum, DeVilbiss is pleased to announce a free firmware update for the IntelliPAP Standard and the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust. This firmware update will allow you to disable the backlight on the LED screen as well as some additional upgrades based on customer feedback including:

• Access SmartCode without turning the IntelliPAP on
• Auto ON is always on if Auto OFF is on. Auto ON can be turned on or off IF Auto OFF is off

To perform a firmware upgrade on your existing IntelliPAP, you need a serial cable, item DV51D-615, to connect your IntelliPAP to your computer. This item can be ordered through CPAP.com for $24.95 (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/devilb ... cable.html). If your computer does not have a serial port, then you will need to purchase the USB to serial port cable, item DV51D-691, from CPAP.com for $37.95 (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/cpap-f ... erial.html).

Then go to http://marketing.sunrisemedical.com/DeV ... efault.htm and follow the instructions.

Thank you for your continued support of DeVilbiss Healthcare and the IntelliPAP. Please keep the feedback coming in!

[[Edited By ForumAdmin: I'm making this a sticky over the weekend so everyone gets a chance to decide if they want to upgrade.]]

I think there is a typo in that sentence which you may want to correct.

Thanks for the info.

Are there any plans for an IntelliPAP Bi-Level Auto??? I know DeVilbiss makes a bi-level but once having a fully data capable device I'm spoiled and wouldn't consider anything less than a fully data capable device and I need a bi-level due to COPD. *sigh*

It is unheard of for a CPAP manufacturer to provide firmware upgrades to patients. I keep feeling better and better about buying two IntelliPAPs.

Having tried the machine and its reporting software, I see nothing in these little cosmetic changes to to make me want to try either again.

And nothing to change the bad taste left in my mouth from DeVilbiss Marketing's way of ignoring algorithm related questions:

eudofair wrote:Thanks Fred, I tried viewing the Webinars but the quality of the audio track was so poor that I only scavanged about 70 percent of the content. It sounded like a non-professional speaker in an auditorium with uncontrolled reflections/reverberations speaking up/down, clearly then mumbling. I viewed the slides however. The default values for triggering responses are off in value for my breath training background of responses. I appreciate the help.

DeVilbiss Marketing wrote:Eduofair - I apologize for the poor audio qaulity on our AutoAdjust webinar, we are in the process of correcting the problem. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust alogrithm.
I would also like to note the DeVilbiss Marketing twice ignored my question about studies mentioned in the webinars.

First time: May 25th

Second time: June 3rd

Here's my question about DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust alogrithm, a third time:
ozij wrote:Kit,
According to the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust alogrithm webinars, Devilbiss assumes a drop in flow of more than 95% is central, and it will not respond to those apneas. Can you point us to studies supporting those assumptions?
Do you have info about the percentages of false positive and false negatives when that rule is used?

Thank you
O.

Third time, no response either.

Ozij. Your question about DeVilbiss intellipap "apnea threshold adjustable"...I have an old DeVilbiss auto (going on 23,000 hours use) and with software % of flow reduction and seconds of duration are adjustable: apnea default is 10%, 10 sec., while hypoapnea is 10%, 40 sec.
I would assume that the newest auto has at the least the same capabilities.

Thank you guest.
My question, ignored by DeVilbiss had to to with their definition of central apnea, which, according to the webinar is based on research.

It was edofair who asked about the ajustabliliy, and was give a stock non-answer.
Interesting, isn't it, to see DeVilbiss marketing say "Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust alogrithm." And yet remain so silent with faced with them....

I apologize for neglecting to respond to your inquiry. 95% is relative to full scale flow measurement, not a drop like is used for hypopnea. 95% of full scale is about 8 L/m peak flow. The AutoAdjust flow sensor is very sensitive to noise in the flow signal when there is effort to breathe, thus causing noise spikes that exceed 6 or 7 L/m measurement. We found about an 80% sensitivity and specificity compared to hand scoring.

There have been no recent published studies using our unit.

The AutoAdjust will score and respond to all apneas with the Apnea % setting = 5%.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.
