Modify headgear

Post by raggedykat » Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:54 am

I have looked at older posts for help with this but have not found one for what I really need. I use the Quattro FFM and the bottom strap that goes across my neck needs to be up higher - where it is causes me a lot of pain. If you have successfully modified yours please drop me a line and let me know what you did. Thanks.

I don't own this mask, but in looking at the headgear:

I would think you have two options. 1, you could cut the vertical straps on the back of the headgear (where they attach to the top strap) and then reattach them higher on the top strap, effectively lifting the lower portion of the entire headgear. Or 2, you could cut the side neck straps where they attach to the headgear at the back of the neck and raise the attachment point on each side. With this second option, the bottom middle of the back of the headgear would stay where it is now, and just the side straps would be lifted.

Others might have better or easier solutions, but I HTH.

*With any proposed amendment like this, it's best to attempt the adjustment and test it before actually doing any cutting. That's easy enough with Option 1 above, as you can simply fold the vertical straps and "tack" them to the top headgear strap in the higher position to test it. But it'll be difficult re: Option 2 above, considering how the headgear is configured.

Good luck.

I did a very easy and quick modification of the headgear without cutting.
The two straps come together in the back of the head where the label is. I just took a piece of tape and taped the straps together there. This makes a fold in the straps, but has worked great for me for months.
When I received a new strap I tried to use it without the tape, but found that I have fewer leaks and the headgear is more comfortable with the tape arrangement.
You could try this before you did any cutting.
